I'm finally home after complications
RNY on 03/05/12
I finally got discharged today (Fri. 9th). I had my surgery on Monday (5th) I developed an infection after surgery and had to be treated with antibiotics. They wanted me to stay another night but I was ready to come home. I missed my kids. They removed a cyst on my ovary while they were in there that was about to rupture. They had to recatherize me because I couldn't pee after surgery. This trauma of the catheter going in and out caused me to pee bright red blood for 3 days. The pain is so horrible once the pain meds wear off. I really need to some reassurance that things will get better. Most upsetting to me is the fact that I gained 11 lbs. back in the hospital. How is that even possible? I haven't been able to keep anything down except for small sips of water, so how could I have gained 11 lbs? I was so proud of my preop weight loss and now it was all for nothing.
I'm so discouraged and almost regretting that I did this because of all these complications.

Don't be discouraged. It is very normal to going weight after surgery. They pump alot of fluids in you via the IV. It takes a good week to get rid of all that fluid. That week starts after you were discharged. You need to be keeping down more than a sip of water or you will be back in hospital for more fluids. Try drinking 2oz every 15 minutes.
I know complications are frustrating, but be patient you are on a life long journey.
Wish you all the best.
