Surgeon in Asheville -- Christopher Edwards

Hi! I'm planning to have VSG, and I just met Dr. Edwards today. I was hoping to hear from others who have had him as surgeon, especially those who had VSG. He said he's only done 100 VSGs (though he's done over a thousand RNYs) and I guess I'd just like assurance that he is ALL THAT AND A BAG OF CHIPS, ya know???

I live in Asheville but decided to go to a different clinic for my own personal reasons.

IF you don't have complete confidence in him then don't go with him.  Dr Bradshaw and Dr. Sosar also do surgeries at mission.

ALso go to the support group in Asheville and they can help you more. THere is not a lot of people on here that post from Asheville.

Thanks for replying, Tamara! I think my issue is not that I don't have confidence in him; it's just that I met him once for 15 minutes, so I don't think it's even possible for me to be completely confident in him. I have been to a few of the support meetings in AVL, but I'll definitely go to more and specifically ask about him. I was approved by my insurance on Friday and am waiting to hear back about my surgery date, so hopefully I'll have time to get to another couple of meetings before the actual S-Day!

Congrats on your approval!  I do not know much about the surgeon in question.  You can always Google your surgeon's name along with "complications" or "VSG" to see if anyone posted anything negative, until you can find some folks who have had their surgery with him.

It's difficult to make a decision when you spend such a short time with the surgeon upfront.  I'm sure you'll have more lengthy visits with him in the future.  Just make a list of all the questions you may have for him... also check out the VSG board to see if anyone there has had him, or what types of questions they ask before surgery.

Best of luck!!

Nic

I'm new here (well...back after researching a few years ago too...)  & would love to know more about the Asheville support group mentioned.  I am still in the research stage & trying to decide which Dr./group to use.  Any help appreciated!

The support group meets tomorrow at 6 p.m. at the Mission Weight Management building. I think they meet the first and third Wednesdays of the month at 6 p.m., as well as the third (or fourth?) Friday at 10 a.m. The meeting usually has a particular topic to be discussed.  I would also suggest calling and signing up to attend one of their free information meetings. I think they have those one or two times per month. You can probably get most of your questions answered there.

I can't go to thesupport group tomorrow, but let me know if you go to the next one so I can say hi! :)
