Sultry Sunday Roll Call
Hi all,
It was fantastic meeting many of you yesterday. I had a lot of fun. One thing I was going to say about meeting in restaurants is that I USED to think it was not a good idea. This changed once I had worked at an eating disorder center and the residents had to go out to a restaurant once a week to learn how to eat normally. This is what they were required to do. They used a lot of mindful concepts. Being mindful of what you chose and why. What emotional attachments are attached to your choice. What visual sensation was triggered by your choice. Then they had to write about their eating experience. I have always liked these concepts and could be used in our situation as well.
Today is church then probably do some grilling. I love to grill. That is about the only type of cooking I do enjoy. You know what I'd like. I have never asked this before. Here goes. Is there anyone in the Durham area who is willing to take me under their wings and work with me on cooking healthy, balanced meals for one person? My hubby works 3-11 so I am home most of the time cooking for myself. I am tired of sandwiches, soups, tv dinners and can[t always afford to eat out. Now that I have the grill, I feel silly using the gas for one tiny burger lol. I will though cuz I love to grill. My hubby is strange. He will eat his sister's leftovers but not mine. I tried cooking and freezing mini meals but he won't eat them. So I don't do that any more.
So, try to keep cool today!

Maybe your hunny loves your cooking so much that he is afraid the leftovers won't be as yummy the second time around- men are so weird sometimes.
I do not really have anything "planned today". I woke up with a screaming headache- made a lsight mistake of drinking some caffiene last night (it was just a little but still caffiene) and wow I get this headache. NEVER again.
I am repackaging some fresh cuts of meat to freeze and veggies as well. We have started this little trick because some weeks I do not feel like grocey shopping and only send him out when I need something small. What we have now could last us a month but I want to get enough in there for roughly three months. I started a plan to cover his meals and such when i am off my feet for this surgery. I do not plan on doing much more the first week other than walking, sipping, and sleeping. dunno what else i will get in to but that is it for now.

Hi Paula! It was great to meet you as well! I went to Trader Joe's after the meeting and stumbled on some fish stuffed with crab meat that was individually packed and frozen. I have not yet tried it-so can not report on the taste..........but looks yummy.
Also-you go right a head and fire up that grill-you are worth it and deserve it! And if grilling is what works for you then grill away!! Maybe you can grill multiple meals for yourself at a time. Meat and veges, shrimps on the grill-YUMMO!
Don't know if you still do protein shakes at all but it could be that that is your dinner and with produce so plentiful what a fun adventure!! LOL
That way you can whip on up in the blender and enjoy! and know you are getting what the body needs. I have begun adding spinach to mine-what a great nutritional add in-and really the taste of spinach is gone so don't think EWWW.
Good luck!

Paula,
I wish I could help but I know nothing about cooking. At All. But I did buy a cookbook: Recipes for Life after Weight-Loss Surgery by Margaret Furtado. I got it at a local Barnes and Nobles. It has some good recipes in it that even I feel like I may make. I will only cook at a basic level though right now my hubby is the only one who cooks.
I do hope someone steps forward to help you on this one. Maybe when we set up the Durham group we could do some cooking classes or cooking exchange.
Take care,
Maggie
