New
Hello everyone!
I am new to this site, and am excited about the wealth of information that I have been able to find here. I am currently just starting my path to WLS. I went to my first infosession this week, even though I have been thinking about this and researching it for many years.
I have not yet met with a surgeon or gone through any of the steps, other than turning in my initial paperwork. I am not sure of the exact process used at Baptist Hospital (Winston), where I plan on having the surgery, if approved. I have an appt with my family doctor this week, just to discuss all of this with him too. I've brought it up with him a few times before, but he kept wanting me to try other things. The 'other things' never work for me. I need something that will make me commit, and give me the motivation to truly change my habits long term. I really want to enhance my life, and to just FEEL better.
Since this is my first post, really, I just wanted to say HI and that you will probably hear from me more often. If anyone has gotten their surgery through Baptist, I would love to hear from you.
Thanks so much!
Nic

Hello and welcome to OH. It is a journey for sure but if you stay on top of everything your day will be here before you know it.
We all know about "the other things" that doctors want a person to try before WWLS, if they worked for everyone there would be no diets and no WLS.
If you haven't decided on a surgery type yet, please please do ALOT on the one(s) you are really interested in. I see you said you have done research but it never hurts to do more. Things like risk factors, rates of healing on average and overall lifetime costs are also things you want to look into. Bear in mind you will probably have to be on vitamins the rest of your life, some people dont but majority do.
I am NOT trying to talk you out of it just making sure that you are aware there are alot of other things involved than the stuff in print. Talk to people who have had it done. Do NOT let anyone sabotage you into not doing something you feel is right for you.
The people here are wonderful for the most part, but there are a few who are snarky (mostly on the main board).
I have nont had my surgery yet but as soon as my stress test is done and results come back I will have a surgery date (barring anything bad ont eh stresstest).
Again welcome and hope you get what you need from this site.
P.S. I love the avatar, too cute.

Thank you for the warm welcome! I have been doing lots of reading still, and am waiting on a call back from the surgeons office to do my first meeting. It's been a week since I attended the infosession, and they said it could be up to 2 weeks before they call back. I turned in the paperwork, so I assume they're getting info from my family dr, etc in the meantime.
I'm ok with the vitamins! I'm on a lot already, so adding a few more won't hurt. I have a few friends who have gone through this process, and they have been extremely helpful and supportive so far in helping me make a decision.
I'm excited to move forward!! Good luck on getting your surgery date!
