Clothing Sources?

 Hi there friends!
I'm now 6 days out and starting to feel like myself.  The liquid diet is going swimmingly.  It's weird not to feel hungry at all.  And when I do have the urge to eat, it's really great to be able to tell myself definitively that it is EMOTIONAL hunger... Not physical.  I really feel like this is a brand new start for me.

Speaking of brand new things... I'm realizing that my wardrobe is seriously going to be a problem in the coming weeks and months.  So, I was wondering if you NC pals might tell me where I can find some cheap, but still reasonably stylish stuff.  I'm a 2x - 20W right now, and I have a few 18W and even a 16 or two in my closet.  Anyone want to share their secrets on where I can go when I need to find cheap clothes quickly?

Rhonda

Couple of places I am finding clothes......thrift stores (goodwill, etc)......my local salvation army had all clothing at 99 cents last week so bought things of different sizes......Goodwill you can get a pair pf pants for under $4.  I am also looking through kohls clearance.....they often have good deals.  Walmart is also an option or Target clearance.  I am just now starting to get to the last of my range of clothing that still fits (I had 22-14 sizes so quite a range!)..........I highly recommend thrift and consignment stores to help you through the rapid changes.

Just a thought~why not network with othere WLS people in your area or support group and do a clothing 'pay it forward'??? I did it my entire weight loss and gave away happily and got some cute outfits that I never thought I'd like. I could absolutely pick and choose, but as I lost weight I tried some new 'looks'...some I kept and some not and was not out a lot of $$$.

You would probably be shocked to find that Sears, JCPenney, and Belks have really nice things now that are priced well. Especially Sears and some JCPenney. There is ALWAYS mega sales happening or specials where the give you $10 for every $40 you spend. Got lots of christmas presents there and came out like a bandit, but its always like that. You can also try Cato's, they have a "normal" side and a "plus" side. Nice very affordable clothes and jewelry. For nicer, dressier clothes, Dress Barn is a good place, but a little on the expensive side. Of course Lane Bryant has good all plus sized clothes, that are very in style, but are sometimes too high for my pricerange. There are only a few in NC but, Torrid is one of my favorite big girl stores in the world! Very trendy clothes in sizes WE can wear. Varies in prices from cheap to not expensive, but a teeny bit pricey. That's about all of the "nicer" stores that have plus sized clothes besides what the other posters already mentioned. Oh, there is Citi Trends and It's Fashion that have good sized plus sections, but I dont know if they are widespread through out NC, or not. If you ever see tham at least you'll know to go in. Oh, and they have good prices too. Hope that these were some help to you. Myself, for a while, I'll be looking at thrift stores for, at least, my pants. Tops on the other hand, are a hard fit on me, so I usually shop new for those. Good Luck
I only strive to be, the kind of person my dogs think I am!

Of the choices we are given, it's no choice at all....

Hi Rhonda,

Congratulations on your recent surgery and the need to begin the hunt for new clothes. I host support groups in NW Raleigh and we do 'Goodwill Hunting' trips periodically. I'll be scheduling one in the near future where a number of us will caravan to a selection of better Goodwill stores, thrift and consigment stores that cater to those of us that may still require a plus size wardrobe.

We also do periodic clothing swaps at the support group meetings. Sometimes folks will even bring things when we aren't having an official swap and either take the 'left overs' home or tothe nearby Goodwill.

You are welcome to join the group if you'd like.

 Hi Barbara!
I would love to join your group.  I have yet to attend one of the support group meetings at my surgeon's practice, and I'm feeling a bit lost in the wilderness.  This board has been extremely helpful, but I would like to have some face-to-face interaction.  I'll keep an eye on the boards for meeting announcements, but if you have a mailing list, I'd love to be added.

Thanks so much!
Rhonda

Rhonda,

We have our monthly general support group meeting this coming Saturday morning at 10am in Raleigh NC. You can go to this link to join the group and then you will notices of any upcoming events. I have a monthly general meeting and then about 4 other 'standing' meetings throughout the month. You can come to ANY of my meetings. It doesn't matter if you don't 'fit' the description of the group for the meeting, just understand that the discussion tend to focus around the issues that the particular group finds interesting.... i.e, Grads group generally focuses on issues for people that are a year or more post op, but we have 'newbies' come that want to hear what life will be like later. I also host some shopping events and other things now and then and you'll be notified of these as well if you belong to the group. Once you RSVP to an event you'll get a reminder the week and day before the event.

I look forward to seeing you at an upcoming event soon.

Barb

Its great to hear you are well. I was wondering when we would hear from you. I also depend on goodwill and resale shops at least until I reach my final weight and can buy the good stuff.

My doctors office also has WL meetings and have recipes and cloths swapes, so you may check with your doctor.

Keep up the good work..
