1.What part of NC do you call home? How long have you lived there?
I live just across the bridge from Kitty Hawk out here in the boonies of Northeastern NC. I've lived here my entire life. Actually my sons are the 11th generation to live on our farm.

2. Pre-Op or Post-Op?
Post Op. August 8, 2008 is without a doubt the best thing I've ever done for myself.

3. How'd you get your screen name?
Kilmarlic is actually an old, old, old name for the part of the county that I live in. Now there's a golf course by the same name.

4. Pre-Op......Your biggest concern about Weight Loss surgery?
I was afraid it was going to be "painful" and that I'd somehow undo my surgery. Hospitals have these great drugs for pain - use them. I can honestly say I never hurt. As far as undoing my surgery - well that doesn't happen instantly. That comes from repeated episodes of not following the surgeon & nutritionists recommendations.

5. Post-Op.....The biggest benefit of Weight Loss surgery?
Without a doubt the thing I hoped to gain - a life without diabetes was an almost overnight accomplishment. The benefits of a higher quality of life are far beyond what I'd ever imagined.

1.What part of NC do you call home? How long have you lived there?

Asheville NC......been here over 4 years.  Not from here originally but did live here once before and LOVE it.

2. Pre-Op or Post-Op?

Post op 13 days.  Am a newbie.

3. How'd you get your screen name?

I love kermit the frog and any other muppet.

4. Pre-Op......Your biggest concern about Weight Loss surgery?

Would I actually lose weight.  Could I handle not being able to eat food inappropriately.  Will my life be the worse or better.  Would I die.  Would I be able to swallow again.  Can you tell I have some concerns?  :)

5. Post-Op.....The biggest benefit of Weight Loss surgery.

Still waiting to have this defined.

Thanks for posting this......will try to visit NC forum more often and maybe we can get some ore traffic on here.  :)

I love all the muppets. Congratulations on your very recent surgery. reading through your concerns brought back a lot of thoughts that I had just before surgery as well. Some of them work themselves out very quickly (yep you can swallow) some are much more involved that you may actually think - mechanically you may eat food appropriately but then you may need to reexamine your relationship with food. ERRGGHHH.........It can be frustrating but it can also be an opportunity to learn things about yourself you may never have imagined.  That self discovery can become one of the biggest unplanned benefits of surgery.

You'll soon be celebrating those WOW moments and non-scale victories - please take a moment to share them with us so we can celebrate with you.

Good Luck!!!

Hey Kim !!! Life as a pre-op. I swear I think time stood still for those 9 months that it took from the time I first went to the doc and I actually had my surgery. Take the time to learn as much as you possibly can about the entire process. Educate yourself. You'll be so prepared your surgeons's office won't know what hit them.

There are small changes that you can be making now that you'll always need to follow as a post-op patient (no drinking with your meals - small bites - chew, chew, chew, chew, chew - daily vitamin routine - adequate water intake and finally daily exercise) If you're not already doing those things you should really consider working them into your life.

Good Luck & keep us posted.

1. Near Buies Creek.  Lived here basically all my life.

2. Pre-op. Waiting on C-Pap and letter to Dr. so they can submit for insurance approval.  It always seems like there is one more thing to wait on.

3. My regular screen name.  I have used it forever.

4 Pre-op ...That it won't work, or some sort of complication will arrise.

5 Post-op ... Don't know yet. I am hoping everything will go smoothly and I will be healthier.

I am not a patient patient. waiting is not something that I have ever done gracefully. After about a week I started calling my insurance company on a daily basis. I think they probably approved me so they wouldn't have to deal with me.

Good Luck & Keep us posted on the Cpap and following doctors appointments. We're here to help support one another.
