Honestly my appointment really did take two hours.  but alot of that time was spent waiting to see Dr. Enochs.  I first met with a patient rep and he went over all the testing I would have to do.  He also weighed me and took my bp, if I am remembering correctly.  He also went over the things I needed to do for insurance.

I was also told that I had been approved by insurance, but you are not "officially" approved until all the testing is done and turned into your insurance company.  I go today for my gastro consult and go back to Rex to get the chest x-ray that they forgot to do.

I had my psych consult yesterday and that was the one thing I was worried about, but should not have been.  It was harmless and they really just wanted to help you reach your goals.

If you have any other questions that I can answer, please let me know.  I am happy to help if I can.
Let me just caution every one = don't listen to all the conversation in the waiting room while you are waiting.  I heard things being discussed that scared me, and felt they were very inappropriate to be discussed in a surgical waiting room.

Actually, when I went for my psych appts I was nervous, too.  But, I ended up getting a referral for anti depressents for a few months because she determined I was depressed.  I had known it, but never saw anyone to help me and was always too embarrassed to discuss it with my PCP.  I actually went for several more visits than necessary because I felt she helped me so much!!  I am really thakful for the psych requirement - it helped me tremendously and actually got me better prepared, mentally, for the surgery.  I would not hesitate seeing her again, even 3 years out, if I felt I needed to.

I was on an antidepressant prior to surgery also.  My psych visit was no problem.  I was on extended release wellbutrin so had my PCP write me a script for regular wellbutrin.  I ended up not starting the  med after surgery, just wanted to see how I would do even though I knew depression could worsen due to the psychological changes from surgery.  Haven't needed it yet, keeping my fingers crossed.  Also was taken off my blood pressure med and haven't needed to restart!

This is my second attempt at having surgery.  The first time through after all the testing it took about 6 weeks.  My insurance ended up denying me due to having nothing else wrong with me other than being obese.  Luckily, two years later they have changed the requirements.  My appointment with Dr. Enoch didn't take the whole two hours but most of the time was spent talking over the requirements needed to get insurance approval.

I did my pshyc. test before my appointment  with Dr. Enoch and I had already started my 6mth required diet program back in October when I saw it was required by insurance.  I went to Rex for all the tests (ultra sound, chest xray, EKG, blood work, and upper GI) on Friday.  I had a sleep study done two years ago but I didn't have any issues so I won't have to take that test again.  I have a gastrologist appointment next week and the nutritionist the following week. My last appointment with my Dr. for the diet is on Mar 24.  I will have everything done.  I hope I'm able to get my surgery in April.  I don't know how long insurance will take to approve but since I've been in contact with them, I'm hoping it won't take long.

Dr. Enoch didn't mention anything about a pre-op diet only that I should try to eat a low carb diet so that my liver wasn't enlarged for surgery to make it easier.
