Good Morning NC

Well hello to all the quiet North Carolinians. We are having some interesting weather here in Raleigh 40 degrees yesterday and 70 today, and again 40 degrees tomorrow. The flu season is in full swing here at the school I am the nurse at. I saw 36 students in one day and sent 25 of those home. This does not include all the whining for bandaids and ice packs. I feel like a one man urgent care. Hope everyone is staying well.

On a WLS note I was harshly reminded last night that I still need to concentrate on taking small bites and chewing real good. I got a piece of chicken stuck and the pain and nausea was awful. Have not had this in over a year and do not miss it. I finnally took three small sips of diet soda and it seem to help it pass. Lesson learned AGAIN!!!!!

Traveling this coming weekend for sons hockey touny and to Pittsburgh for a superbowl party at my sisters. I am looking forward to some relaxing fun and family.

Have a great day
Audra

Hi Audra,

I'm delighted to see your post and hope that others will join in. It's so very important for us to support each other by sharing our struggles and successes no matter where we are in our respective journey's. Thanks so much for sharing yours.

After seeing what you posted about having to send all of those kids home from school, I sure am glad I got my flu shot. I'm hoping it will help me dodge that nasty bullet this year.

I'm so sorry that your pouch yelled at you last night. I have to say that when that has happened to me as I am farther out, it's both somewhat distressing and comforting at the same time. While suffering through it is physically uncomfortable, realizing that I'm making the mistake that caused it is usually nearly as uncomfortable. That said, knowing that my tool is in place and working to help me take care of myself is really comforting. Like you, I learn my lesson 'again' and move forward.

I hope that you and your family enjoy your trip this weekend.

I visited the orthopedic Dr to address my back and the pain associated with the compression fractures. She prescribed a Fentanyl patch. It takes a while for the medication to build up in your system, so I'm just now beginning to 'enjoy' the pain relief. It's the first time in more than a month where my pain level has been below a 2 or 3 on the pain scale. I know that may not seem like a big deal, but it's been between a 2 and a 7 for over a month. Until last night, I hadn't slept for more than 3 to 5 hours a night and sleep deprivation can get mean after a while so I'm really grateful for the break. I'll be using the patch for the next month. After that, we'll see what happens. I'm hoping I won't be hurting anymore and won't need anything. I'm supposed to abstain from exercise until further notice. When I can exercise again, I'll work with a physical therapist to make sure I don't hurt myself again. I want to improve my balance, strength and aerobic endurance in hopes that it will improve my overall and skeletal health.

I'm working on trying to make sure that I not only get in my requisite calcium citrate and vitamin D, but also that I am eating a diet rich in vitamins and minerals such as calcium, magnesium, iron, etc...

Thank again for your post and I hope others will join in and let us know how they are doing, no matter where they are in their own journeys. We all have so much to learn from each other when we share.

All the best,

Barbara
