Newbie Here - Waiting for My Surgery Date!

Hi there!

I'm waiting on my surgery date from Duke.  Getting anyone there to call you back is like pulling teeth and I'm feeling frustrated.  My surgeon will be Dr. Pryor.  Any thoughts on Dr. Pryor, her staff and Duke in general?

I started this journey last April and I am ready to go!!  I'm having gastric bypass and am excited but also nervous about side effects and problems.

Hi Jillian,

I haven't had any personal contact with Dr. Pryor, but members of my support group that meets in Raleigh have had very good things to say about her. Generally, the comments are that she is no nonsense, competent, answers your questions, is personally concerned with your welfare. I heard that she was recently named co-director of the program there at the facility in Durham. 

If you are having difficulty getting responses from people at the office in Durham, you can call and ask to speak the office manager. If that doesn't get you the support and response that you need, you can go to the Patient Assistance office at Duke and they will help you.

Please know that while there are always the 'possibility' of side effects and problems, that most people go through without any serious problems or side effects and to be honest, even those who have had problems, are glad that they did and would do it again.

I understand what you are going through. I had the same problems with Dr. Portenier. It finally happened. When we had our group meeting with him, he apologized and said that it was because of the limited staff and the popularity of the surgery's. Keep praying on it and try to stay busy. You will get the phone call when you least expect it.

I'm probably in the same boat as you.  And you just asked the $10 million dollar question apparently.  LOL

Where are you in this whole process?  I might be behind you in terms of what I've got to do next--I have no idea.  I'd love to hear from you because it sounds like we're in the same boat.  Thanks for your post.
