So, i don't post much on here but I read everyday. I feel so good! I had my appointment with DR PRYOR today and she said ever thing looked great and that once I get complete my mental health appointment on DEC 23rd , I can call to schedule my surgery. She said she is scheduling for January so I hope ,no I know I am going to get a slot in January.    Any advice that any one can give would be wonderful, espec ially from those who have had Dr.Pryor at the Duke weight loss center. Thanks

Dr. Pryor is a wonderful surgeon. Although I only was able to meet with her for a few moments during my visit--she made me feel at ease and she answered all my questions. The day of surgery--it was the same way. She's the absolute best!!

Just do what they tell you to do and you'll be just fine!!!

I did not have Dr. Pryor but I can tell you a problem that I had. I was drinking 1 - 2 protein shakes a day for a couple weeks before my surgery.  After surgery that was one of the main ways to get in enough protein each day. But after surgery I could not stand even the smell of a protein shake. It took 3 months before I could even stand to taste a protein shake and it made it more difficult to get in enough protein each day. Its funny how your taste changes immediately after surgery.
Good luck with everything.

Hi Mym,

Congratulations on your upcoming surgery. I did not have Dr. Pryor, but have heard wonderful things about her from a number of the members of my support group. Just to be affiliated with the group at Duke Metabolic and Bariatric tells you something about her qualifications and she has been with them for years, as a matter of a fact, she recently was appointed as the Co-Director for the program at Duke.

Regarding your upcoming phsyc appointment, just know that they are there to help make sure that you have all of the tools at your disposal that you will need to make the lifestyle changes you will need to make to ensure that you are able to maximize your weight loss opportunity and keep it off in the long term.

I would have minimal protein supplements available for your return from the hospital because as a previous poster mentioned, many people experience a change in their sense of taste immediately post op. Some mention noticing a metalic aftertaste, some are not able to tolerate sweet tastes as much. For many, the sense of taste seems to balance out after a while.

Wishing you all the best,

Barbara

Congratulations. I do not have Dr. Pryor but I will be at Duke as well. I finally got my date but Dr. Portenier (I may have misspelled his name) was boo****il Feb 1st. I figured it was a good way to remember the day I change my life. I was honest with the physiologist and every one else. I figured now was not the time to stretch the truth. Maybe we can be friends and support each other through this process. Take care and keep posting.

Hey lady, congratulations to you!  The psych eval is fairly easy, so don't sweat it.  What surgery are you going for?

I hear you!  It seems like there is appointment after appointment after appointment before the big day.  I'm going in for Pre-Op tomorrow and am starting to get a little nervous.
