Surgery Date Scheduled for RNY on 12/28
Hi All,
I am happy to report that I now have RNY surgery scheduled for 12/28/10 with Dr. Portenier at Duke. Even though I've done a ton of research on this, I still have a lot of questions. Probably some that I don't even know to ask. I do have a chance to ask some additional questions during my pre-opt. appointments, but I was just wondering if anyone who had RNY previously or is going to have RNY has any advice, tips, suggestions, warnings, etc. Any feedback is appreciated. It helps to know what I may experience.
I am also curious how much pain/discomfort to expect right after surgery while still in the hospital and the first week or two. I've had laparoscopic sugery on my lower back previously, but I am nervous that I may experience more pain/discomfort with this surgery. Any suggestions on how to rest more comfortably and/or deal with the pain, as well as how to prepare for my home recovery time are appreciated.
Thanks.
Lisa

mym22988,
I met with the nurse practitioner instead of the surgeon, and the psychologist, and dietician. Unfortunately, I'm not the best person to ask about timing. I had some personal delays that delayed my time schedule. However, it seemed like based on my conversation with the nurse practitioner, that the surgery appointment could be scheduled within a month or two of those appointments. This is also dependent on whether or not you need any special testing, like a sleep study, etc.
