First off.. Hello and Happy losing to one and all!! I have a question.. My sister friend is in process for RNY and is almost at the end of the process.. Dr. Chapman's office was suppose to submit her paperwork to Blue Cross Blue Shield last week... She works with East Carolina University and has State Health Plan... was wondering if anyone has any idea of turn around time for decision approval from them?? She is so excited to be having surgery that she is becoming impatient... kinda making me crazy.. lol So if anyone has an idea.. I would greatly appreciate hearing it...

I am happy for your sister to have made the choice to have wls.
I dont know anything about bcbs stae insurane.
I have bcbs through my husbands job and I found the waiting part was worse than the surgery.
I did learn I had to stay on top of everything and have copies of everything that was sent.
In fact bcbs denied me the first time.
I wrote an appeal letter on how life was for a super morbid obese person and hand delivered it and with in tow weeks was approved.
I will never forget walking into bcbs with my cane and my appeal letter.
wls has changed my life and I am totally loving my new life.
Good luck to you and your sister.

Nelle,

It's great to see you and I hope you'll stop by now and then. Congratulations on your sister's decision to seek WLS. I'm sure that your metamorphosis has had a lot to do with her decision.

Re: BCBSNC State Plan. I don't have personal experience with them, but you might want to try Alice H. She works for ECU and I think that she had BCBS. If I recall correctly, most people that have had BSBSNC have been approved relatively quickly if their package was complete.

Best of luck to your sister!

I have BCBS State Health Plan and was approved within 2 weeks ( I think about a week and a half). They approve super fast and it is a covered proceedure under the state health plan. Good luck!
