I just wanted to stop in and say hi. I didn't realize it had been so long until I updated my signature.  I am doing well.  Working out & staying busy.  I met my goal of loosing 100 lbs in March. I need a century club tag if anyone knows where I can get one.   I can't believe I did it one week short of 9 months!  Seeing how slowly I was loosing in the beginning.  The weight training really did it for me!!!  Now I am working on how to stay around where I am now.  That has always been the challenge for me in the past.  I had someone say to me last week after finding out I met my goal.. "Aren't you glad you're done..."  I told her "I wish.. I'll never be done".  It's scary to move in to this new phase of me but also exciting.  I will try to get to the meet-up group. It's been hard with the kids.  They always seem to have birthday parties or ball games =)  Good to see everyone.

I am currently 4 weeks post-op RNY.  I would LOVE to start weight training.  Can you give me a little info about what you did?

Thanks so much and CONGRATS on your goal.  THAT'S AWESOME!

Thanks.  I started weight training at the end of October.. about 4 months out.  I would wait until at least 2 or 3 months out so you don't worry about lifting.  But I hired a trainer for 8 sessions from my gym.  I didn't want a once a week thing.. I told them I just wanted her to do me a work out that I could do on my own for two or three weeks and then meet again for another workout.  I also wanted her to teach me to use the machines/weights and lift properly.  Now I feel more confident working out on my own.  I take the work outs she's done and switch up every few weeks.  I also do a body pump class at my gym that helps push me.  They change that class every quater.  I alternate my workouts with the body pump three to four times a week.

Good luck to you!  Thanks again.

Kelly,

Congratulations!!! While you will never be 'done,' you are moving into the next phase which will have it's own challenges and rewards. If you can't get to the Saturday meetings, you might want to try coming to the 'grads group' or the 'beck group' which are both geared to the issues you are now beginning to deal with.

You can and will do this successfully!

Wishing you all the best,

Barbara

I am 4 months out now and my personal trainer is the BEST thing I ever gave myself. I found her for my 3 weeks pre-op and she trained me to lose the 15 pounds I was allowed. Now she has restructured my work outs to tone. I definitly agree with the waiting until 3-4 months. It takes that long to get enough nurishment and fluids you need to build muscle. I will say that afterwards I have been much weaker than pre-op, but my trainer is having fun beating my butt lol!!!!!. Weight training seems more realistic with a trainer than ever on my own.
Congrats on your training and keep up the good work
