Are they the ONLY great WLS facility out there?? Any one have any experience with Rex in Raleigh? or any other place that is GREAT with GREAT surgical results? I would love it if the place did not need to have a PCP recommendation since I'm still looking for one.

I had my surgery with Rex Hospital through Dr Paul Enochs, Bariatric Specialists of NC. I was pleased with him and Rex Hospital. If it makes a difference, I went to a Duke Seminar years ago and did not like them.

I also went to Duke's informational session, but decided to make the trek to Greenville, Brody School of Medicine.  And I am glad I did!  The service is exceptional!!!

My surgery is next week (whoo hoo) and they are strict with diet and exercise... but I am in great hands!

I know the drive is a bit of a drama (I live in the triangle area too), but it has been worth every mile.

Send me a PM if you have any specific questions.

Take Care and Many Blessings on your journey!

Dear Hazel,

There are a number of programs within driving distance. I run a large support group in the area that has members from all over. If you'd like to come to the meeting this Saturday and ask people in person about their experiences, you are welcome to do so. You will find that with every program, there are people that love 'em and people that don't. They all have the pluses and minus'.

Wishing you all the best as you move forward,

Barbara,

I tried accessing info on your group, but received an error page.  Where can I find info on your support group?

Thanks!!

Laura

The url for my group that meets once a month for the general meetings and has several special interest group meetings each month is http://www.meetup.com/nc-wls.

Let me know if you have any trouble accessing it.

You may also want to look at the program in Pinehurst at FirstHealth - the website is http://www.firsthealth.org/Specialties%20&%20Services/Bariatric%20Center/index.asp

Hazel, I'm from NC but don't read the NC board too often, so I've only just read your post.  Be SURE you look into the weight loss surgery procedure called the duodenal switch.  There is a DS board here on OH, also, you can read about it at www.dsfacts.com .  It provides better weight loss and a much better eating lifestyle post op, and I think there are surgeons at Duke that will do it.

feel free to PM me with questions,

mspppants  and p.s. I went to SUNY Potsdam and grew up near there, in Star Lake!
