I just found out my insurance plan at work apparently excludes all forms of bariatric surgery. I dont know what to do now - this surgery was my one shining hope. It looks like it won't be happening at all now.

I have not been in your shoes but I will encourage you to not give up so easily. You may encounter several different obstacles on this road so a little push back never hurts. The worse they can say is no but you never know until you try.

My initial thoughts:
1) See if the exclusion is only if it is elective versus your doctor recommends it due to your health.

2) I know the year has already begun so it may not help but if you have a FSA (flexible spending account) and could maybe pay some of the expenses out of pocket for other things, this may help.

3) Check out self-pay. Some doctors and hospitals may allow the 'pay as you go' in some form that would help.

Even if you have to save up, waiting a little while will be worth it if you want it. Time does fly by so what may seem like an eternity could be here before you know.

Take a deep breath and look into other possibilities. Wishing you the best and hoping you find way. We are here to help so maybe someone else has an idea.

Hugs to you!
