Okay, Nutritionist done ($321 uncovered dollars I might add), pyscologist done, primary doctor done... only thing that is lacking is the 250.00 application fee and I'll be on my way... wife doesn't really like the idea and it will probably cause a not so small argument..... so ...from the group...is it worth it... starting weight excess of 400 lovely pounds.

Definitely worth it!!!

My only regret is that I didn't do it sooner.

However, you will need strong support during this time.   I would definitely work to get the wife on board before having the surgery.   Take her along to all your appointments and to your group sessions.  This will help her understand what is going to happen as well as what will need to be done during recovery.   This will be a partnership during your journey.

I second all that Sid had to say... It's probably one of the best things I've ever done for myself, but you really do need as much support as you can get. My mother wasn't supportive and I invited her to attend many of my appointments. This allowed her to have her questions answered and misconceptions addressed by the experts. It went a long way towards addressing her fears and concerns and ultimately she supported me through my surgery. She was still worried, but supported me and is so very pleased with the outcome... I don't just mean that I'm slimmer, but that my health and quality of life have improved so dramatically.

Wishing you all the best,

Barbara

DO IT...I am 1 month post op. today. I am so happy I had weight loss surgery. It isn't easy but it is a lot easier than being over weight. I was 412lbs before surgery. as of today I have lost 50lbs. All it takes is the courage to get off your butt and take control of your life. YOU CAN DO IT.

Do it.  I agree you should invite your wife to the appts.  My husband was supportive but my mother was very concerned.  She felt much better after talking with my doctor.  There were times though that my husband was jealous of my weight loss.  He has weight to lose too but doesn't want surgery.  I bought him a gym membership for Christmas and with me shopping and cooking differently along with working out, he has lost 25lbs and many inches.  It was a good thing all around.  I feel stellar!  You will too.
My body does not define who I am but I am trying to define my body.  It  gets easier with every pound I drop.

I agree with all of the other posters support is a huge aspect of succeeding in your journey.  I believe their may be another way you could address this issue with your wife...ask her if she can put a price on your life?  By getting upset over the amount you are spending in this process she is doing that because the surgery has been proven to help resolve so many health issues that it can lengthen your life.

I am hoping that you are able to continue to keep your journey going because it can be a phenomenal one with amazing, life changing results!

No regrets! I had complications early on but even with that I wouldn't trade the weight literally being lifted off my shoulders. No meds anymore no hurting, etc. Yeah it was definately worth it.

Nothing tastes as good as this feels!

I'm a little over 2 years out.... down about 200 lbs... Heathier and happier than i've been in well over 20 years!!!  I can do anything i want to do... without an inhaler, without carrying around a stool so that i can sit and catch my breath every few yards.  my blood pressure is perfect!

What more can a person ask?  Do it... as everyone suggested, bring your wife to your appointments and meetings... you will need her help and support.  But it will make your life and hers a whole lot better!!!

Speaking from the perspective of a former 463 lb man, who now weighs 188 lbs (almost 2 yrs postop), don't delay, otherwise your only regret will be that you should have done it sooner.  Your wife loves you and she will come around.  Talk to her.  Explain to her why you want to do this.  Share the pros and cons and I guarantee you in the end, the pros will win out and she will back you 100%.  Afterall, in addtion to doing this for yourself, you're doing it for her, so you can be there for her in the future.  Your life will change along the way and maybe shes scared you won't love her when your thinner.  Reassure her that how you feel about her will not change.  It will all work out.  And trust me, you will have NO regrets, especially when you are able to do everything that thin people do everyday and just take for granted, like walking without tiring, tying your shoelaces and not getting out of breath, being able to take up just 1 seat on an airplane, being able to buy nice clothes for cheap off the rack at ANY store, and best of all, all the money you will save once your health improves after the weight loss.  Good luck on your journey and please keep us all posted.
