Hello everyone. Hope all are doing well. Been 2 years and 7 months since I had my surgery and I'm in need of some memory refreshing. I was trying to remember if there were any certain antacids that we shouldn't use. What work best for you?

Each person has to find an antacid that works for them. I can take Zantac and it is useless. I take Pepcid and it works well for me. Even the "purple pill" by script was NOT good for me, so I go the inexpensive route when I need an antacid....which is rare (when I am mega stressed).
good luck.

Thank you Holly. I have been under some stress myself here lately... maybe that is what brought it on. I usually don't have a problem. Well off to the store tomorrow...wish me luck.

Stress is one thing that makes more acid in my small stomach pouch, then it ends up terribl heartburn. Gastric bypass didn't cause it, I had it before. I can go for months with mild day to day stress and be fine. Add a job interview, dating someone new or teenager angst and I wake up with GERD every time. I have found, for me, that CALCIUM CHEWS, found in the vitamin section for women, work the best for me! If I know I am stressed, I take Famotadine for the duration and carry the calcium chews with me (caramel or chocolate). I figured it out, as Tums and those OTC things you take for heartburn are only Calcium...and expensive. I asked my pharmacist friends about the chews and they all smiled and told me, "You're a smart woman, Nurse!" I read labels. The box of 60 chews is often only $6. and used to be $4.79 before I spead the word to all my GERD buddies ...guess the company figures if more people are buying them, then they can raise the price, but they are individually wrapped, and EZ to carry. Do NOT leave them in a hot car or they will make a mess.
They might help you, too, and can't hurt you at all.
good luck!

Thank you again Holly. You have truly been helpful. I had the stress way before the surgery. I have only been married a little over a year and when you deal with exs I guess there will be times when extra stress can be expected. Thank you again.
