My heart is breaking...
Dad died early Thursday morning and I've been running full tilt since then. I will miss him dearly, but am glad that he didn't suffer terribly. I checked on him about midnight before I turned in for the night and he was holding my mother-in-laws hand while they both slept peacefully. My mother-in-law called to me because he was askew on the bed to help straighten him out... he often slept diagonally across the bed, but when I reached for his hand it had the chill of death. I checked for a pulse and respiration, but found neither. I called my husband and son to help comfort my mother-in-law while I called hospice and family.
My sister-in-law has been making the funeral arrangements and the services will be next Wednesday... That seems like such a long time away. In my faith, people are always put to rest in 3 days or less, so a week seems like an incredibly long time to me...
I am struggling. Not just with the loss of my father-in-law, but with how to best care for my mother-in-law and for me as well... I'm not sure if these things are mutually exclusive or not.
I am praying for wisdom and guidance as we move through this new phase of our family life.
