Dilations after RNY
Has anyone in NC had to be dilated after their RNY. I am going to my fourth endoscopy diliation tomorow with a GI specialist this time instead of my surgeon. He is going to be a little more aggressive and inject steroids into the scar tissu in hopes it will not grow back. Has anyone in the are had this issue.? I am having the new opening from the pouch to the small intestines dilated and I am located in Raleigh and had surgery through the Duke Bariatric Center.
A few months ago I was having a terible time with food getting stuck.
I also had an endoscope and long story short found I had lots of ulcers around the opening to my pouch.
They treated the ulcers did another endoscopy and there was talk about stretching the opening.
I told the doctor not to streath it because personally I needed the restriction.
UNC did not put me on the purple pill after surgery which if they had I may not have develped the ulcers.
So for the rest of my life I will be on ulcer meds.
Good luck to you I hope you get the care you need.

Thank you for your responce. I had my 4th dilation this morning and did fine, but it was tighter than the GI specialist was anticipating, could only stretch to 16mm. He did injedct steroids into the scar tissue so I pray this helps the scar tissue to not grow back. I wi**** was just a restriction but unfortunatly for me I can not eat or drink even the minimum food or liquid. I think my body has been in starvation mode for weeks and I know that is not good.
Thanks again, I will keep faith that the Lord has it all under control,

Out of curiosity, which GI did you see?
I see Al-Sabbaugh, who is in Raleigh and he's a great GI that knows RNY. If you continue to have problems, I whole-heartedly recommend him. And considering that I don't trust docs very much at all (I think 99% suck ass) then this says something.
The man *understands* malabsorption. Not as in "I know that your guts have been cut up." but rather the "Let me tell you WHY you malabsorb this" and "this is why you aren't absorbing this" and "remember to take this twice because you don't do time-release meds" type of *understanding* malabsorption.
If I could have him for my PCP, I would.

That is funny because Al-Sabbagh is the most skilled GI guy I have ever watched and worked with. I am a nurse that has seen him up close in procedures. He is the GI dr that did my fourth dilitation on Friday. He said it was the tightest he has ever seen, not the news I was hoping for but he does have a plan to prevent it from becoming so tight again. He was not able to dilate to were he wanted but he did get to inject steroids to see if that helps.
Thanks for the advice, I would recomend him to anyone having any type of GI issue. I have seen him prevent the need for surgery in more than one case. He also specializes in liver functioning.
Thanks for the support,
