Where should I be?

The 18th of this month I will be 2 months post op.  I am down 37 pounds.  Is this good?  Am I on target?  I went for my 2nd visit to my dietician and she was expecting to see more weight loss.  That kinda got me worried.  What are your thoughts?

Any comments would be appreciated!

Nearly 40 pounds in 2 months sounds wonderful to me. Some lose faster than others and then there are folks who just seem to lose slowly regardless of what we do. If you and your surgeon are happy with your progress that's really all that matters. Good Luck to ya.

Your right, and he is happy with where I am.  It was just kind of a let down when my dietician said that.  Wasn't expecting it.

Thanks!

Hi Teresa,

I think that this is probably one of the hardest parts of this journey. We want to know if we are maximizing our weight loss potential. I struggled with this myself and was afraid that I would not be maximizing my potential and that I might not get all of my excess weight off. If you go to my profile and look at the weight loss charts in my blog you will see that I had only lost about 30 lbs when I was as far out as you are. Now, I was 49 when I had my surgery and I'm 5'6" tall and while my known high weight was 267, I had gotten down to 233 by the time I had surgery. I guess what I'm trying to say is that you need to be comparing apples to apples and then remember that even all apples are not the same size and shape. I found a website created by an RNY patient that pulled demographic data from a number of major programs and you plug in your own demographics and it will tell you how you compare to others your age, sex, starting weight and number weeks/months out from surgery to calculate your potential weight loss based on your performance to date. When I first did it, I think I was looking at about and 80% excess weight loss. Eventually, I went up to 100%. It really helped me quit comparing myself to others who had much faster loss rates and realize that I was doing well. The url for the site is www.thinnerself.com

I hope you find this helpful and congratulations on your success.
