I am just curious...I see all these goal weights posted and I am not sure what I should have in mind.  I am 5'6 and currently weigh about 250...what should I hope for and when should I hope to see it?  I know you contine to lose but when do you start to really see results?  Please know I understand everyone is different.
Thanks,
Chrissy

This could be the hardest question to answer for yourself. I haven't answered it for me yet. (See my ticker and siggy) I did decide I want to be healthy. That goal is pretty much accomplished and any more is the icing on the cake (pardon the pun). Its only my opinion as I am not a professional at this, but getting healthy is a goal we all should have. Everything else is just numbers.

Hi Chrissy,

Ann is absolutely right. I have to say that while my size 6 slacks are sweet, it's really all of the health and quality of life benefits that made the journey worth it.

I am also 5'6" tall. I'm in my early 50's and my high weight was 264. I weighed about 250 when I started with my program at Duke and got my weight down to 233 when I had surgery. My Dr's 'goal' weight for me was 178. When I was about 178 I was wearing a size 12, at 170 or so,  I was down to a size 10, at about 160 I'm a size 8 and now in the mid 140's I'm a size 6. When I dropped into the 130's, I wore a size 4. Actually, if I never got smaller than my Dr's 'success goal' I think it would have been okay because by then I was a 'normal' size, my health issues had resolved, and my quality of life had improved immeasurably... I guess I'm saying that any weight I lost beyond that has just been the 'cherry on top.'

I hope that helps some.

I agree with the other ladies.  My drs goal for me was 75% of the weight I should lose.  He felt that was more realistic than the normal 80% that they tell you you can lose with RNY.  I lost 100% of what was needed.  I have felt good all along because of working out and the weight loss.  I feel terrific now.  I am in the maintaince phase.  I know how to lose weight and how to gain, but to maintain is new for me.
I think I would have been happy at a size 10 if that is where I had stopped.  but now I am wearing size 2 to 4s.  Mostly 4s.  I do work out 5 to 6 days a week for 2 hrs at a time.  1 hr elliptical and 1 hr weight training or yoga.  I think that has sooo much todo with how terrific I feel.  Good luck and keep up the good work.
My body does not define who I am but I am trying to define my body.  It  gets easier with every pound I drop.

I walked into the surgeons office 5'7" 281, when I had surgery I was down to 255. I am still 5'7" but am now 145lbs. I would say I really started to see results when I hit 50lbs down... that took 6 months. It took me 1.8 years to reach my current weight.

First visit to surgeon - 288 ~ bmi 45.1
2 week pre-op 252 ~ bmi 39.5
Total lost - 153 Since surgery - 117!
Goal weight - 155 (mine) 180 (surgeons)
Current weight - 135 (2020 I lost 10lbs due to dedicating myself to working out more and being in better shape)

1/14/2025 still maintaining 135 :-)

Extended TT, lipo, fat injections - 11/2011

BA/BL/Arm Lift - 7/2014

I set my goal weight at what would put be at a 23.5 BMI.  That gives me a little wiggle room for being normal.  My surgeon has my goal as a BMI of 25 (top of normal range).
