Marcee,

Remember that your journey has already started, it doesn't start when you have surgery. It starts when you decide to make significant changes in your life and the surgery is just one of many tools you'll be employing to bring about those changes. So, look at the other things you are doing and can do to get yourself to where you ultimately want to be. That may be starting to log what you eat and how much you drink, it might be getting a pedometer to see how many steps a day you walk now and then increasing it until you get to a minimum of 10K steps a day, it might be joining a support group, working on making dietary changes, etc... There is a wonderful book and workbook called the 'Beck Diet Solution' written by Dr. Judith Beck. It's not a diet, but is way to look at your thought processes as they relate to food and start to become of aware of 'dangerous' thoughts and learn to manage them and begin to develop a more positive relationship with food.  Another book is called 'Eat it Up' by Connie Stapleton, and it is directed specifically to the bariatric patient and also addresses behavior issues and getting your head around them.

Congratulations on taking the first step in a life-long journey to health and wellness.

Well I am in the same boat.  I have started my pre op visits to Psych and Diet/Nut but I do not have a surgery date.  I am keeping my anxiousness under control by doing lots of research, chatting with people on line, making new contacts at the support group meetings, etc.  Thankfully I have people close by that can answer questions I have.  I have started looking at receipes for later, thinking about where I can by clothes, looking into exercise programs. Can you tell I am so ready for the surgery I could explode!!!????  I also like to read so I get lost in the book for a while.  Hope your surgery is soon and all goes well!

Thanks Everyone, I appreciate the info. Its a journey we have talked about for a year or so now, too many health issues coming in to play and such. I know that we are both excited and nervous about it but we are so ready for a change.
Congrats and salutations to all..
