i had my GBX surgery on aug, 26th... and have done really great.  im down about 70 lbs!!!
but, ive noticed that im starting to have a strong aversion to meat.  is this typical?  with all the protein we are supposed to be getting, not wanting meat is not a good thing. LOL!

one other thing is.... i used to hate ice,  i would only have 1 or 2 ice cubes in my drinks.  now, i want as much as as will fit in my cup!  i dont eat the ice necessarily, i just want my drinks really cold.  am i just a weirdo?

has anyone else gone through strange stuff since surgery?

Hi Libby,

First of all, it's nice to meet you. Secondly, congratulations on your success. It looks like you are doing a great job at getting that excess weight off.

I don't know of too many people that really developed an 'aversion' to meats, but some can't tolerate some meats, especially, early on. There are some vegetarian solutions that might help. I'd see about investigating those as a way to compensate and keep working on finding some other ways to bring some meats into your diet.

Do be sure to have your iron levels checked. Since you tend to just want your drinks cold rather than eating ice, you probably do not have pica issue, but people who are low in iron can develop a pica issue that is often related to low iron levels and manifests itself in chewing ice. Like you, I tended to want my drinks frosty cold when I was about where you are in my own journey. That has moderated with time and I'm pretty much back to my 'normal.'

I too did the meat thing about 6 months out, but when I saw how much protein is in a serving of lean chicken, I guess I just worked " mind over matter". Protein powder constipates me and when I eat lean chicken I always drop more weight. I often purchase the rotisserie chicken at the grocery store to make quick meals. I use it to top a salad, make a quesadilla, and make my own healthier version of a KFC "bowl".  Bon appetit!
