OT: Day Trip

Oh folks have we had a great time today. If you or anyone in your family are fans of WWII aircraft then do I have a place for you. There is a new museum in the Pungo section of Virginia Beach, VA......It's called MAM... the Military Aviation Museum...google it. They have some amazing restored and replica airplanes on display in the 2 hangars. We missed the speaker they had this morning but we got there just as they had rolled out a B-25 Mitchell. It was amazing to see and HEAR this plane as they warmed it up then flew it.
 
David loves anything and everything related to flying and  it was so much fun to see the kids excited about it as well. I was thrilled to realize that I was on my feet for about 3 hours before Serena announced that she needed to sit down because she was tired of walking. I hadn't even noticed that we'd been there that long.
 
There was also another great part to this museum - there were little groups of veterans at various parts of the facility. Some "work" there as docents and will tell you wonderful first hand accounts of the different aircraft. Others were visitors there that just struck up conversations. They were very welcoming to us "younguns" and seemed more than willing to recall their different accounts of their service in WWII. It was a humbling afternoon in that aspect.

Check out Somerset Plantation and Pettigrew State Park.  I know Pettigrew has some programs (including programs on animals and they even did one on star-gazing where you stayed there overnight or at least late, I think).
