Hi Deb,

One of the easiest ways to do this is to go to www.picnik.com and upload your photo.

Once you have done that, click the 'Edit' tab.

Then click the crop button on the 'Edit' tab.

A 'Crop' window appears. You will see a drop down menu on the top left of the 'Crop' window.

Click the 'square' option, then use the 'handles' to size the square to show the image you want to appear in your avatar.

Now click OK. The 'Crop' window closes and you will see the 'Edit' tab again.

Next, click the 'Resize' button on the 'Edit' tab.

The  'Resize' window opens.

Enter '100' in the 'New Dimensions' field. The system will automatically populate the second dimension with the value you put in the first field. because the 'Keep Proportions' box will be checked by default. Leave it that way.

Click OK. The 'Resize' window closes and you will see the 'Edit' tab again.

Click the 'Save and Share' tab.

The 'Save' window opens. The name of the original photo appears.

Click the 'Save' button.

VOILA! You are done! You have an avatar that you can use for OH or any other site. To resize your other photos, you can do a similar resizing, but you don't need to resize them to 100 x 100 and they don't need to be square. Most photos for online viewing do well around 400 to 1000 pixels, so anything in that range should work. You can also change the 'quality' when you save the photo to 5 on the slide bar just about the 'save' button.

I hope that this helps.

There are lots of ways to do a side by side, but since you have already used picnik, go back to www.picnik.com and upload both of the photos you want to put together in a collage. Edit them so that they are each cropped to the size you want them to be. It tends to work best if you can get them so that the perspective is about the same for both photos and save them as a new photo in the size and shape you want them to appear.

Next create a collage. On the 'Home' tab, you'll see something near the top that says 'Collage'.

Click collage. The 'Collage' tab will open. Notice that you will see a 'film strip' on the bottom of the screen that shows your photos.

Click the collage shape you want. There are a number of shapes you can choose from, but I think that the 2nd from the left on the basic is a good one to use.

Go to the film strip on bottom of the screen and click and drag the image you want to appear in each frame of the collage. The image(s) will now appear in the selected frame(s).

You can adjust the placement of the image by dragging it to center it if necessary.

Click done when you have the images you want placed where you want them. The 'Collage' tab closes and the 'Create' tab opens. At this point you can add text or decorations or you can just save the collage as it is.

When ready, click the 'Save' tab and save your image to your computer.

I hope this helps.
