After surgery tips
Hi Holly,
Please contact your Dr's office to fine out when they will allow you to take a bath. My Dr's office asked me not to take a bath until all of the incisions had healed and asked me to wait until I was 3 to 4 weeks post op. Of course, showers were fine and I was asked not to remove the 'steri-strips' they had used to bandage the incisions and to just let them slough off themselves. That said, you need to check with your Dr's office to see what his protocol is regarding baths.
I understand that need to chew and it sounds like you'll be able to do so soon. Take heart. My program didn't allow me to have anything to chew until I was 3.5 weeks post op. I thought I'd die,b ut of course, I didn't. I did see about using some broths flavored with garlic, onions, carrots, etc... I would then strain them and just have the broths. I did this with both beef and chicken broths. Sometimes I do an asian version, sometimes an italian or mexican, by changing the herb and spices I was using to 'infuse' the broths.... i.e., ginger for asian, maybe oregano or basil for italian, etc... It really did help to have something savory instead of the sweets. If you need to have something to 'chew', try SF popcicles. That seems to help a bit and of course they are just a frozen version of something like Crystal Lite.
I hope this helps some.
