I HATE to return Christmas presents. This year is no exception. David bought me a black leather jacket for Christmas. And it's too small. 20 lbs is all it would take for me to wear it. Should I keep it???

Let me add a little background info. David swears that he's gift giving challenged. He came up with the idea of the coat all by himself. It is NICE. I love the cut. Very feminine. Very, very, very expensive. He picked out a sales clerk that he thought was similar in size and she told him that she was border line between mediums and larges. He chose the Medium because he says that I'm smaller than she was. (I LOVE THIS MAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

Now my scales haven't moved in months. but honestly I need to get motivated and take off the rest of my weight. I really think the coat is the motivator that I needed. Am I being realistic?

That is so sweet of him.  It's up to you.  If it were me I would rather wear a coat and get use out of it than not.   Could you just go try on a large in the same coat and cut and see how it fits?  That may help you decide.  If the large is really big on you just keep the medium.  Sizes are so crazy these days it's hard to tell.  That said.. I think you can take the 20lbs off and if you are sure it will motivate you then go for it.  You've got 30 days or so to decide =) How do you like that for indecisive advice (sorry)

Iris,

It sounds like David got you a beautiful jacket.  I would not know what to do either.  So, let me play the devils advocate.

I lost most of my weight the first year and then only 20-30 lbs the next 6 months.  Being 2.5 years out, not only am I still trying to loose the last 50 lbs, but I am in constant battle not to gain an  ounce.

Would the next size still fit you if you lost those 20 lbs?  If so, you may want to still exchange for the next size.  I always were bulky sweaters and hoodies, so my jackets need to be roomier.

The other side of coin is that neither one of us feels like we are finished.  If you are like me, I will not stop without a fight.  I had this surgery to get healthy and I want it all!

I know I was no help at all!  But I am excited for you.

Keep it and have it where you see it everyday as motivation to lose those pounds.  I KNOW you can do it!!!!  you've come SO far, you can't stop now!!!!

He sounds like a dream!

I think that Kelli and Carrie are right. If you can try on the larger jacket and see if it will work, give it a try. My leather coats are from GW, so they aren't expensive... or weren't to me anyway. I have one that fits like a glove and and one that fit like a glove 20 lbs or so ago. Both are wearable. I wear the larger one with a sweater underneath and then it's soooo comfortable. It's fine a little larger even if I don't wear a sweater underneath, but not so 'tailored' and now I tend to wear my clothes more fitted and tailor than I ever did before.

I don't mean to imply that you won't lose into the medium that you currently have. I imagine that you will, but you may be able wear the large more comfortably now and will still be able to wear it 20 lbs from now.

I'm sorry that I haven't been much help.
