Hi Tracy,
First of all, welcome to NC. I'm a transplant myself, but I'm from CA. I had my RNY in June of 2007. While I am about 15 lbs heavier than my lowest weight, I'm actually pretty comfortable with it and not planning to go back to my lowest weight. I guess you have to decide if you are more comfortable there or where you are now and work to either maintain your current weight or work to get a few of those regained pounds back off.
I have found a couple of books that are really helpful to me. The first is 'The Beck Diet Solution' by Dr. Judith Beck. It's not really a diet, but a way to get your head around learning to 'think thin.' It comes as a book and workbook and I would suggest you get both. You can often find them on Amazon. The other book is by Dr. Connie Stapelton and is called 'Eat It Up.' This one is directed specifically to a WLS patient where the other one is directed to the general dieting public.
Many very effectively use WW to lose excess weight. I think it gives reasonable structure.
What I have really found is that if I'm gaining, I need to get back to basics and then it comes right off. For me this means that I need to start logging again. I don't log unless I'm gaining. When I do, I invariably find that I'm taking in too many carbs and not enough protein, so I switch it so that I'm loading with dense protein first and then the carbs. Honestly, this really works for me and the weight just starts to 'normalize' when I get in the appropriate amount of protein in. As I log, I find that I become more aware of what I'm doing and I make better choices... Not so much because I have to, but because when I'm paying attention, I do a better job of making better choices.
I look forward to getting to know you and wish you all the best,
Barbara
