Tuesday check-in
Last night's christmas party was a lot of fun. I only made it through the first 2 courses. horderves and salad. Then I was down for the count. But you know what? Because I was totally not focused on food, it was truly a social event unlike past years. Before surgery I was eating everything because it was so good, the first 2 events since surgery I was worried about what I could or couldn't eat. But last night there was no focus at all about the food. I simply ate what I could until I was done, then asked for a doggy bag for my main course (10 oz sirloin and stuffed potato) and skipped the dessert and enjoyed a coffee. I felt NORMAL or at least what my perception of what normal should be.
I still need to really concentrate on increasing my H2O. I found myself pouring the coffee and skipping the water yesterday. I did get in more than usual but still need to focus more on hydration.
Today is a busy day at work then catch-up on the errands that did not get done this last weekend. I decided after a review of the available water aerobics classes, that I would go on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday for my 3 planned work outs. I think with all the errands I have to run and a few extra trips up and down the stairs at work, I should be moving enough to be a benefit.
I hope you have a GREAT Tuesday!
Hi Carrie,
I can really relate to your comments about how the 'focus on food' has changed. I know that I focused on and over-indulged before surgery. Then I was focused on what to eat to be WLS friendly the first year was losing... still a lot of focus on the food, but different. Less so last year. But this year, like you, I think my 'focus on food' has probably moved into the 'normal' range. I enjoy it, but it's not something I focus on or obsess about, such as drooling over gorging on favorites or worrying about what I can or cannot eat. I do eat and truly enjoy foods now, but they are just a facet of the celebrations, not the focus of them.
Thanks for bringing up that change. I think it's one of the positive things that happens as we move into our second year and beyond.
Have a wonderful day.

Barbara,
I honestly did not realize until last night so much of my socializing was actually a focus on food. As I reflect on the last week or so and all the gatherings I have been fortunate enough to been invited to celebrate this holiday season, I see a more light hearted me. I can actually be a little silly at times. I have really been enjoying myself and back to a more humorous me. That is a part of myself that has been lost behind the so serious personality I had become in the last 20 years. I have been enjoying a lot of belly laughing and it has really helped improve my out look and feelings of well being.
I guess I will continue to find myself through my journey through what is call LIFE.
I can't wait to see what the next day and the next and the next will bring. There is a whole world out there waiting for me.
I love that my focus isn't on food anymore. We had a huge covered dish dinner at church Sunday and I know that I personally made 2 sugar free desserts for the dessert buffet tables - but I couldn't tell you what else was on those tables - BECAUSE I NEVER EVEN WALKED NEAR THEM!!!!! That was such a huge AHA moment for me. I opted for a small piece of ham and turkey and a few green vegetables and that was it. I enjoyed visiting with folks that I hadn't seen in a while or better yet those who hadn't seen me since prior to surgery.
I had one sweetheart tell me to not lose another pound but just keeping looking sexy. I love this woman.
I really like these daily accountability posts (even if I haven't been joining in) - keep 'em up.

Thank you so much for commenting on my accountability posts. They have really helped me think out loud in a very caring environment. I have a very limited time to catch up on posting and often find I am late in the "game" anyway.
I have really been enjoying your posts both here and on the RNY board. I feel like I am a part of your "family". I love hearing about David and his little ones and you and your sons.
I also noticed our mutual love for coffee. But I can drink it both regular or decaf, black or lightened. I think the only way I do not like it is black with sweetener. I find myself eating dark chocolate expresso beans, sugar-free coffee flavored hard candy, etc. I wonder what it is with the coffee itself that has me addicted. I have tried for the last few days to add more water, but the coffee is still winning. I think tomorrow I will try adding herbal hot tea. Perhaps the hot liquid will be appealing enough to become an alternative to the coffee more often than not.
Thanks again.
