Hello,
I am new to this website. I am doing research and so far it looks like the RNY surgery is what would be best for me. I have medicare/medicaid insurance and the 2 places that seem the best are the Duke program in Durham and the Wake Forest Bapist hospital program in Winston-Salem. I have done a lot of exploring on both places websites and have gone to the seminar at Baptist.

Does anyone have any experience to share on either program and what made you chose the place/ program you did? They both look like greeat programs. Should I apply for both and then decide down the line or decide before applying?

Any help, insight, suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks
Tiffany

I had my surgery in Greenville but a good friend of mine had surgery in Nov at Duke. She had a hard time with Duke they did not return her phone calls and were not very nice to her. I had back surgery at Baptist several years ago and they were wonderful and helpful.

You have to deciede were you will be comfortable.
I can give you my friends information if you would like just email me

Hi Tiffany,

I had my surgery at Duke almost 2-1/2 years ago and my husband had his there last December. Their program has been undergoing a lot a changes and from what I can tell they have generally been postive. They have restructured the flow of how the manage calls coming in, scheduling, etcetera and it seems to have helped. I am sure that there are other very good programs available, but there is a good reason that Duke has had their ASBS/Medicare Center Of Excellence designation for a long time. They have a robust, fully faceted program that addresses the psychological, nutritional, and medical issues surrounding Weight Loss Surgery. They perform most of the weight loss surgeries currently available with the RNY being the most common surgery that they perform. They perform their surgeries at Durham Regional Hospital which is affiliated with Duke and has just had a fabulous bariatric wing added. The medical offices are down the street in a new facility dedicated to supporting the bariatric community.

I would suggest that you attend a seminar at Duke, then ask questions of both programs to find the one that suits your needs the best.

Wishing you every success no matter which program you choose.
