Just saying hello as a new member.  I am scheduled for RNY gastric bypass at Duke on December 1 and I thought I'd take advantage of the wonderful support network that exists here.  Glad to meet you all !

Hello Rick,

Congrat's on your upcoming RNY.   I'm post op RNY (11/5/09) Dr. Farrell at UNC did mine.  On my first post op visit, I had lost 16 pounds.

You will love OH.   I have learned so much.  I try to log in every day, but life with work/ church and two kids in Elementary school take's most of my time.   So I get to check in about once or twice a week.

If there are any questions that you need answered, this is the place.

Keep in touch.

Hi Rick,

Welcome to the forum and congratulations on your upcoming surgery through Duke. I had my RNY with Dr. DeMaria in June 2007 and my husband had his with Dr. Portenier in Dec 2008.

We both attend the Duke support group meetings and I host some in the Raleigh area on a monthly basis and  you are most welcome to join us. We actually have a meeting this weekend if you are available. Our general meetings are once a month on the 3rd Saturday of each month, then I host some special interest meetings throughout the month that occur on weeknight evenings and those are generally held about once a month also. I have a Grads Group for folks that had their surgery a year or more ago, an over 50 Group for people who start with high BMIs and a Beck Group that deals with behavior management issues and is based on the books written by Dr. Judith Beck. Anyone is welcome to attend any group, just know that the topics may be skewed to the interest of the special interest groups. If you are interested in joining any of our in person groups, you can get more information and RSVP at www.meetup.com/nc-wls.

Oh... On OH, you will find that there are boards for each surgery type that you might find interesting. You will also find that there is a 'Men's Forum' and other special interest forums.

I look forward to getting to know you as you make your journey.

Wishing you all the best,

Barbara
