Halloween candy...
When will I lose the old mentality???? Do I want the candy in my daughter's pumpkin? No....I just miss it!!?? I feel so silly!!! Haven't touched a piece...and won't....too scared of dumping or realizing I might be able to tolerate it. But these silly 'wishes' in my head are there!!! Walking thru the candy isle at Wal-Mart (had to get it for daughter's party at daycare) I missed my reese's cups and butterfingers!!! What in the world!!??? When will my head level out?????

Karen,
This is just my opinion but I don't think we will ever lose the desire for things that we used to enjoy. I think it is just easier now to make good choices. I also don't think one bite of something you love would hurt, unless it sets you up to continue to keep eating carbs. I have a friend who has controlled her weight loss(non surgical) this way for over 20 years. She is able to take one bite of something and let it go at that and be satified. That is what I hope to be able to do also. I want to be able to control my eating like a "normal" person and be satisfied with a small amount and not have to over indulge in things that I like, the way I used to before surgery.
Good luck in controlling the candy goblins!

It is not the magnitude of our actions but the amount of love that is put into them that matters.

For me its the banana flavor Laffy Taffy! I haven't bought the candy for tonight yet and I won't until later on this afternoon. Most likely my DH will pick some up and it won't be the one I like and yeah I will be wanting to go get the mix that has those in it but alas I will not do it. I have been really craving a banana Laffy Taffy all month anticipating getting them for Halloween. So I get it!

Karen,
I cant explain it but for months my DH has some bags of Hershey kisses on his desk in out computer room we both spend lots of time in here and I am fully aware it is there but it dosent haunt me like in years past.
For that I am grateful.
Oh I think about it sometimes and even look at the bag but the great thing is I dont act on it.
Any leftover candy from tonight I will give to him and that will be that.

I won't try even a little piece at this point....I don't want to. In the past I couldn't stop with 'just one'....so for now...no way, un-uh for me! ;) I did purchase a bag of sugar free Russell Stovers candy....I'll have a piece from time to time and I'm ok with that. I just wonder when/if I'll win this battle with my old mindset!!!

Hi Karen,
You are right to be concerned and some people will be able to have some candy in moderation, others just can't have around. You won't know for a while. Right now, keeping a distance while you are losing is a good thing. Later, you may be able to learn moderation, but before you try a bit here and there you might also want to look at the things that trigger overindulgence and find ways to manage it. It's a learning process. I guess the real thing that this drives home is that while they did surgery on our guts, our heads still need some work.
Wishing you all the best!

I'm not sure i'll ever get the "fat girl" thoughts out of my head... but now at 2 years out i think i'm able to control them more. I'm no longer powerless over them... I occasionaly have a piece of "real" candy, in fact when i go to the mall i get one (just one) piece of Godiva Chocolate. I usually keep the Russel Stover sugar free around the house, but the hubby likes it more than i do, so he eats it more often. But the thoughts are always there....
