Day 3 of optifast diet...have I messed up?
Hi Danielle,
While it is very important that you follow your Dr's regimen, you have not 'blown' it. Dr's have a variety of reasons for putting patients on diets pre-op; some want you to 'prove' you can buckle down, some need you to reduce the size of your liver to ensure a safer procedure during surgery. Many obese people have a fatty liver. When the liver is too large, it can interfere with the surgeon's ability to see and manuver... and this is the main reason the laporascopic surgeries may revert to open surgeries. This is relatively rare, but can happen. Sooooo... when you go on a diet, like optifast, you will start losing weight and the liver will shrink making the surgery safer... That's the main reason that most surgeon's ask you to go on an extreme diet like Optifast. So, while they want you to do your best to stick with the program, a minor slip won't undo you. Just get back on the horse and be sure to stash some Optifast in your purse, car, etc... so that you'll be covered in the future.
Wishing you all the best and much success,
