Has anyone had Dr. Pender?

I am scheduled for RNY on Nov.11. Just wanted to know what to expect. For example his bedside manner, tubes...no tubes, how long did you stay in the hospital, etc.

Dr. Pender put in my DH's band.  Not impressed with his bedside manner or his attitude towards the band and fills.  But, we muddle through.

Good luck.  I understand he is much happier doing RNY.

I had RNY by Dr Pender on January 14th,2009.  What you can expect is that he is man of few words unless you have concerns or questions.  But he's really good.  I go dehydrated and had to stay and extra night.  but Surgery on Wednesday and home friday was the plan.  If you have laproscopic there will be no tubes.  The actually don't have stitches on the skin, they use some kinda of glue.  Will have a catheter but that comes out pretty soon.  I had surgery around noon and was up walking by midnight.  I wish you well. 

He can be a man of a few words....but he will tell you like it is.  He expects you to follow the rules and be truthful with him.  He believes in what he is doing and is excited about how RNY may be the part of the path to curing Diabitis.  And he is one of the founders of the Robotic surgery.  He is a good surgen.  No tubes with me.  He has a Good record and it is a Great hospital.  His staff is good also, busy but good.

I went for my pre-op appointment this week. He was great. I started my optifast diet today. 13 more days before surgery! Danielle

Good surgeon! He will take it as serious as you do, and doesn't scare from tough questions! I throw him plenty! LOL He calls my results from his cell phone, his follow up is good. You will be fine. He is NOT a chit chatter, no tubes if you go laposcopic.  Had surgery on Wednesday, home on Friday.

I appreciate your insight. He was great this week when we went he even drew me another picture of what he was going to do. I started my optifast diet today. 13 days and counting. I am on my way!

You won't regret going with Dr. Pender.  Also, if you are interested, see the post I put up today about hte research study at ECU...  I did one when i was post op and it was actually fun and I made a little cash for new clothes!
