Some Thoughts
Yesterday with the help of my therapist I came to relize that my super morbid obesity not only was a wall that surrounded me but it also helped close down my ability to deal with many feelings.
When I was SMO my drug of choice was food.
Now when I have emotions and stress come up I am having to learn new ways to deal with them and not stuff with food.
My heads first responce is to stuff. With the gift of my pouch I am not able to do this to the degree I could before surgery.
So for me not only have I been given a tool to help me but it helps in many more ways than I ever would have imagined.

Now this is by no means a public service announcement endorsing stress eating...it is just where I am at the moment.
I may not can stuff myself as before, but I certainly notice that when I am stressed, more 'junk' makes its way into my pantry.
Along side the peanut butter, south beach peanut butter cereal bars, and Special K with protein, when stress comes my way, you just may find some evil chicken skins, potato chips, and a cookie or two.
I am not stuffing but I am certainly not 'thinking' about what I am eating and making healthy choices.
Just another gotcha that can getcha!
If I am gonna eat like a fat girl, then I gotta workout like a skinny girl!

I sometimes feel like I have turned into a human calculator.
I do go down where the chips are and I actually pick many different bags up looking and searching for that one bag that is low in fat and low in calories have not found any.
While the chip monster was dead on my heals the other day I stood my ground and bought some dry roasted almonds.
I have noticed when I eat nuts they really fill me up to where I feel like I am gonna pop.

Annie,
Thanks for posting your thoughts and feelings like this. I understand them all too well. Oh, and it isn't just any old chips for me, thus I can't even do the deal of walking down the chip aisle checking labels....I have one specific one that calls to me. I used to sit and drawn myself in a bag of cheetos, not just the snack size bags, of course, the full bags. I am still not hungry since surgery, but after a meeting where the psych got up and talked about how certain foods will be your thing that tries to pull you back into that way of life and you just flat out have to stay away from those, and a few times when I have gotten quite stressed out, I just find myself thinking of the cheetos, seeing them in every nook and cranny of every store, etc. They scream out for me on those days, and I try to let my husband know so that he isn't shocked if I am in a bad mood as I work to ignore the cheetos at every turn. I can do a tiny taste of some things, ice cream, cake, whatever. I mean tiny as in just enough of a taste that it might be on one tine of a fork...but cheetos....I know I can't do that with cheetos. I want them badly enough that if I got one I would be like a drug addict getting a taste of their cocaine or whatever it is they were addicted to. I know one taste of a cheeto would be enough to make me long for that whole bag at every stressful moment in life. I much prefer to work through the feeling for a short bit, and ever month I get further out, the feeling gets a bit less.
