Question for Duke patients
I'm scheduled for the DS on 11/12 with Dr. Sudan at Duke's WLS clinic. Surgery will be at Durham Regional Hospital. I'm just wondering if the patient rooms are private and if it's feasable for my husband to stay in my room. (I'm in Yorktown, VA so we're traveling to see Dr. Sudan.)
Oh, and can anyone recommend a decent hotel? My first post-op appointment should be a few days after I'm released, so we're planning on staying locally as opposed to driving 3.5 hours home and then making another 7 hour round trip day a few days later.
Thanks!

Most (if not all) of the rooms on the bariatric wing (6th floor -- wing 3) are private rooms. And yes, your spouse can stay in the room if you want. My wife stayed with me the first night and I GREATLY appreciated it.
The spouse can sleep on the visitor's chair which folds out almost flat for a "bed". You just need to let the nurse know when you get up to the room.
As far as hotels go, there are a bunch of hotels at the exit 174 and 175 on I-85 (about 2 miles from the hospital). I've never stayed at any of them but there is a Red Roof Inn, a Holiday Inn Express and a Hampton Inn at those intersections. The closest "nicer" hotel is the Durham Marriott at the Convention Center.

Hi Tessy,
DRH has a large private rooms on thier bariatric wing and they have reclining chairs for our spouses to stay in while there. The Holiday Inn Express is pretty nice.
Wishing you all the best with your upcoming surgery.
