I am posting this here and on the main board. I was so disappointed this am. I went for my two week post op appt after RNY and gained a pound and a half. Shannon said "that's never happened with a bypass pt." Thanks a lot!
I hope I looked at the scales wrong on my surg day. I weighed 241 at my H&P visit. I THOUGHT on my surgery day I weighed 227. I thought I had lost 14 lbs on Atkins diet.
Well today on the same scales I weighed 228 and 1/2! They are going to check the computer and see what I really weighed the day of surgery.
I hope I am not going to be the first person in the history of gastric bypass to gain weight!

It is not the magnitude of our actions but the amount of love that is put into them that matters.

My first thought is that there has been a mistake.  Very unlikely.  My second thought is that they pump you full of so much fluid in the hospital that you may not have gotten rid of much of it yet.  I am one month post op myself and just want to encourage you....if you eating what they tell you...IT WILL COME OFF.  I have lost 29 lbs in 6 weeks.  I read a post today that someone was 3 1/2 weeks post op and had lost 40 lbs.  We are all different so I can't expect to lose what another does, etc.  But again, I think your numbers were wrong or your body hasn't adjusted yet.

Fear not my friend!!
While I was in the hospital having my gastric bypass surgery, I gained 5 pounds!!!
You, therefore, cannot be the first person in history to gain weight!!!
It is the fluid they pump into you. Don't worry, it will come off.
I am now 6 months out and have lost 83 pounds from my official pre-surgical weight.
Just stick with the program, remember this is about learning better, healthier habits. As you continue to make better choices the weight will take care of itself.

Jackie,

Mica is sooooo right. It's actually not uncommon for patients to gain a few or even more than a few pounds post op due to fluid retention. It doesn't happen to everyone, but it's really not at all uncommon. Brenda is also right; while you may not have lost much yet, if you stick to the plan you will. Hang in there. I know this had to be a really hard visit for you, but it will get better. You will lose and you will look back on this and smile someday.

Wishing you all the best,

Barbara

Even if it is true... which I think there has been a mistake. But there is no way you will not loose weight.  Don't worry.  It will come off.  I am sure if it is true it is just fluid.

My surgeon did not want us to weigh for the first few weeks after surgery.  He said alot of people swell postop.  I know I did.  I can tell on postop pictures, and so glad that I didn't weigh.
