Labs... Vitamin D
Ok, first off... I know I haven't posted in a LONG time, it's not that I haven't been thinking about ya'll or anything, it's just that life gets in the way - ya know? Things are going fine with me, the "farm" is growing (we have a few baby chicks and a couple Guineas added this past couple months)... Fun Fun Fun... I have come in and lurked a bit here and there, seems everyone is doing well... Lots of new "loosers" on the bench - CONGRATULATIONS!!!!! I love reading about everyone's Wow's and everything!
Anyway, here's my question (I should know this since I'm 7 years PO, but I guess I forgot!)... I had my annual labs done and once again my Vitamin D is low. Last year Dr MacDonald perscribed 50,000 IU's for 8 weeks, I figured that was it. So this year my labs came back low on "D" and he perscribed the same thing... 8 weeks 50,000 IU's then labs again... Any advise on how to get my numbers up???
Thanks in advance!
Sheryl

Hey Sheryl,
I'm in the same boat. Had been feeling very tired and fatigued all the time. My thyroid checked out good and my iron levels were o.k. but my vit D level was at 24. I was told normal runs between 32 and 100. So my doc gave me the 50,000 units once a week for 8 weeks. Next draw my level was at 29. So I am now on another 8 weeks of the 50,000 units. The only advice I got was to try to get at least 15 minutes of outdoor time in full sunshine a day. So far, I haven't been able to do that. I'm anxious to see what other responses you get.
Hope your levels come up soon!!

Hi Donna,
Thanks for your reply. I am tired a lot too, but I work nights (12-hour shifts) and atributed it to that mostly. I also usually don't get a full nights sleep, 6 hours is normal for me, but definately not a sound sleep... which I found out also is a sign of low Vitamin D. I do get at least 30 minutes of sun a day, this summer has been more than usual with the garden and chickens and such, so I figured that was good. My level was at 22 last year and 22 again this year. I hope this 50,000 IU will do the trick, I don't want to have to have shots. ugh!
Anyway, thanks again for your reply and I hope you're levels straighten out too. If I find out anything new I'll let you know.
Have a great weekend!

Vera,
Thanks for the info... I hope we can all get our Vitamin D levels up!!! I have to take extra for the next 8 weeks, then more labs. If it's not up then they're talking about shots - ugh!
Have a great week!!!

My doctor says everyone has low Vit-D. They recommend supplement of that plus the regular bariatric vit. I take the Bariatric Advantage vit D. It's 5,000 iu and I take two a day. I will find out in a few days how my labs are doing but I can say it's made a remarkable difference in my energy levels.

I got my results in the mail yesterday and I was amazed! I am right in the middle of the healthy range for vit-d and b-12. I was always deficient before surgery, even taking other vitamins. I will definitly stay with bariatric advantage. I am impressed.
