7 Years ago yesterday...

I couldn't get online yesterday but wanted to share this moment with you.

I still can't believe that 7 years ago yesterday (8/22/2002) I was having my WLS surgery.  I am very thankful for the wonderful Dr. Kenneth MacDonald for giving me back my life.  Before WLS I tried everything under the sun to loose weight and would do well for a while and then gain it all back plus more.  My top weight was 425, the day of surgery it was 395 and my lowest weight was 167..  Even though I have gained 27 lbs back I am very very happy with my life, I no longer have Type II Diabetis, High Blood Pressure, High Cholestrol, or Knee and Back pain.  My Asthma is much much better and I no longer have problems breathing while sleeping (I wasn't diagnosed with sleep apnea but I'm sure I had it).  I am on a mission to get back on track and eat healthier again.  I read that a lot of people feel like failures if they gain any weight back after WLS, I don't feel like a failure, I just feel like I need to jump back on the wagon and get control of my life again.  WLS isn't for everyone and I don't try to talk people into it, but for me it was the right choice.

Just wanted to share this moment with ya'll...  I haven't been online a lot lately but I do think about you and hope you're doing well.  Thanks for letting me share!

Thank you for sharing this. It is good to hear from people who are healthy and years out from their WLS.
I hope you continue to stay healthy and enjoy your life. Jackie

7 years - that's quite an accomplishment to see where you're at compared to where you've been. Can you imagine what your life would be like if you hadn't gone through with the surgery? I too love Dr. MacDonald.

Thanks for a GREAT Monday morning post.

Iris,

Thanks for the note, I have an appointment with Dr MacDonald on the 31st and though I'm not looking forward to the weigh in, I am looking forward to talking with Dr Mac and figuring out how to get back in control.  If I hadn't had WLS I truely don't think I'd be alive right now, morbid as that sounds.  So I am very grateful!!!  Dr Mac also did my gall bladder surgery 1 1/2 years ago and I'd crawl back to him now if I needed any other surgeries....  (crossing fingers that I won't need any though!).

Keep up the great work!  I've been lurking a bit here and there...

Take care!

Sheryl
