Thinking about switching to Frye in Hickory

So, I've been going through the bariatric Program at Mission Hospitals in Asheville.  I have done my 4 months of nut classes, and most of the pre-op run around.

I just now (stupid, I know) realized that my insurance. BCBSNC, only accepts centers of excellence.

I hope all of my classes and hoop jumping will carry over, so I don't have to start all over again.

Have any of you had RNY at Frye in Hickory?

How did it go?

I did not have my surgery at Frye but have heard great things about Dr. Cook.
Right in mid steam I got fed up and switched from Duke to UNC.
I had to redo my NUT evaluation and physh eval but it was really pretty easy once I switched.
Keeping in mind I did have to stay on top of have test results sent to UNC
Just always remember you are the consumer and wls should no be looked at lightly.
For me it has been the best thing ever.
I wish you luck on your journey.

It is never too late to be what you might have been.?

I went to the orientation at Mission and then contacted Frye surgical program. I love the program there. I had lap band but had a friend Shauna that had RNY with Dr. Cook. He's old school. Dr. Hata did his residency at Duke and has been at Frye for 1 year now. Dr Cox is al little bit old school and a little new school. They are all good doctors.

I will be honest with you BCBS of NC will pay for the surgery but BCBS does really push you to choose a center of surgery of excellence.

I would recommend you call Meredith and talk to her about the program.  828-315-5577

If you want to private message me your phone number I will talk to you about the program at Frye.  I live in Clyde, work in Asheville.

I would definetly do it all over again at Frye. At Mission you have to do a lot of test that I think are unneccessary and it really bothered me that they have applied for Center of Surgery of Excellence 3 or 4 times and have been denied.

Have you looked into the WLS called the DS, or duodenal switch?  I am from Asheville and also have BCBSNC.  You need to have a BMI of over 50, probably, to qualify for DS.  It took me a little longer to get approval, but the DS is an amazing surgery, leaving you with a eating (and drinking) lifestyle that is better than the RNY.

You can read more at www.dsfacts.com or go over to the DS forum, under "Surgical Forums" here on OH.

I went to Atlanta for my DS and BCBS paid at the in network rate because there are no surgeons in our area who do the DS.  At 12 weeks out I have lost more than 55 lbs. (from 295 to 239) and can enjoy eating lots more calories than RNYers, who end up basically dieting for the rest of their lives.

Hi,
I am in the process with Dr. Cook.  I am very comfortable with him.. I have UHC and my ins. isnt working very fast.  Lisa the one that deals with the ins.  has called them for me...so they are helping all they can.  I am having a RNY at Frye.  All the people who work there have been great.  I would recommend FRYE
