5 wks out and gained weight!
I am getting very discouraged. At my 3 week visit I had lost 19 pounds and was pleased with the loss. I had to go back at 4 weeks and I had lost another pound which didn't thrill me but it was a loss. Tomorrow will be 5 weeks since RNY and today I have gained 3 pounds since this past Thursday. What is going on? I am eating soft proteins, drinking water and low calorie beverages. I admit I am not getting in all my protein and not all my liquids but I am consuming all I can. If I try for more I get very uncomfortable. I don't think I can handle another failure in trying to lose weight. I was sure RNY would be the answer for me. Does anyone have any suggestions or ideas as to what is going on with me? Appreciate any help.
I found that if I record everything I eat helps me.
I use sparkpeople and many use mydailyplate.
At first I thought how in the world do you record a bite here and there.
What I saw by being accountable those little bites here and there add up.
On sparkpeople I can break it down to looking at a graph or pie chart to show me maybe I had too much fat one day and not enough protein.
I shoot for consuming over 100 grams of protein every day.
I workout 5 days a week and have to becareful not to putmyself into starvation mode when that happens the body tends to hold onto the fat for dear life.
You will not fail at this keep your chin up and keep fine tuning things.
All the best to you and your journey.

talk to your doctor and nutritionist about this but until then ....is it possible that you're constipated? Personally that makes a huge difference for me. Also are you getting in all of your fluid requirements? I've noticed a big difference when I don't.
You're still really early out so please make sure you follow up with your doc to make sure the weight gain isn't a sign of any complications.

It is normal for the scale to go up and down... over time you will learn better about how your body changes. On average I go up and down around 3lbs... if I do 3-4 I know its from things like eating salt, TOM or just retaining water.
You did not actucally gain 3lbs of weight... thats really not possible at this point :-) Just keep focusing on getting your protein and liquids instead of the scale... that will help you much more in the long run.
