Vacation
Well, we returned from our vacation to NY on Wednesday night. Here were some highlights from the trip:
* Surprising my family (who didn't know that I had had WLS). My mom was totally blown away and so happy for me. She said that she was so proud of me for having the courage to have the surgery and that she wishes she had the courage to do it. She kept telling me all week that she couldn't get over how great I looked and also how happy I am. She said she hasn't seen me this happy in years!!
* It was an awesome feeling to get on the plane and not be thinking, oh no, what if I don't fit. I had no trouble fastening the seat belt and even had to tighten it. I was also able to sit with my legs crossed. I didn't have to turn sideways to get down the aisle. I was so happy to feel normal.
* While on vacation we went to a Six Flags amusement park. I was a little nervous going in about fitting on the rides. It was an awesome feeling to fit through the turnstyle with no problem. The first ride I went on was a kids' ride. I went on with my 5 year old daughter. As I stood in line waiting I was reading the sign with all the precautions and one of the things said something about "people of size." Well I can't tell you how amazing it felt to get on that ride with my daughter, fasten the seatbelt with no problem, and even have to tighten it a whole bunch. After that I knew I had nothing to worry about as far as fitting on the rides.
*I loved getting up every morning and sliding into my new size 18 clothes and admiring myself in the mirror. It felt so amazing to actually like what I saw in the mirror. By the end of the week my size 18's were actually a little big on me.
* I enjoyed getting together with a bunch of friends from high school and college that I have avoided seeing over the past 15+ years due to the fact that I was embarrassed and ashamed of my size.
* We did a lot of walking over the course of the week and I was amazed that after all that my feet were not swollen and didn't hurt or anything.
* I still can't believe I went to the public pool and wore my size 16 bathing suit (without a shirt over the top). I know I wasn't the sexiest looking thing there, but I felt pretty darn good. When we were there 2 years ago I didn't even take a swimsuit 'cause I knew I would never get in the pool in front of people. My SIL took my daughter in the pool with her and I vowed to myself that day that I had to do something because I wanted to be the one being active and enjoying activities with my daughter, not someone else. Well, I did it!! I did everything with her this past week. We went on a horse & buggy ride, took a steamboat cruise on Lake George, did the amusement park, went miniature golfing, went swimming, etc.
* I cannot remember the last time that I have enjoyed life so much. I actually got to be a normal person. I have sat on the sidelines for so many years, but now I actually have a life!!! It was awesome. I really can't wait for the next vacation!!
