I am only 5 1/2 months out and thought I would be spared.....but no.  I am getting a brush full everyday now.  If it lasts 3 years...I will be bald

Ok, you caught me!

I am 3 years out and my hair still comes out. My protein levels are low and always have been since surgery. My hair is not coming out in handfuls like 3-6 months after surgery. but I do get a couple of pretty good comb-fulls when I wash and do my hair.

Here is probably what you really want to know...what am I doing about it?

1) reviewed my labs from my recent 3 yr appt (and compared them last years labs) and found my protein levels are still low. It was also. low enough for the dr to mention ti to me.  Focus on protein first when you eat.

2) I just tried protein powder again. Hated it right after surgery and had not tried it since. I now put it in my coffee to help me get a little more protein in.

3) Take Biotin regularly. I have been taking 5000mcg daily. I have been playing around with increasing that dosage. I have not noticed any adverse side affects so I'll see if the hair loss reduces over the next few months.

4) Try to avoid using harsh chemicals on your hair. My hair seems more fragile now which would makes since with my protein levels being low. I do perm my hair but I switched to using a no lye relaxer. Before surgery I always used lye relaxers. I also wear my hair in a ponytail reducing the need to use pressing combs and hot curlers, etc. as I have a myriad of styling appliances just ready to burn my hair off my head. I would go natural but I am not ready to bring the afro back into style!

My hair loss has slowed down dramatically but it has not stopped completely.

This is strictly my opinion and plan. It is working ok for me. Be sure to mention it to your doctor and follow their advice.

Hope this helps. Have a great day!

If I am gonna eat   like a fat girl, then I gotta workout   like a skinny girl!

Hi Kisha,

I'm a little of 2 years post op and to be honest have not had hair loss issues in over a year and half. I'd contact your Dr. and make sure that you are getting adequate protein and vitamin supplementation.
