four days post-op

RNY was this past Monday and I came home late in the day Tuesday. I had some minor complications with my oxygen level being too low and it took 12 plus hours for my kidneys to start working. Due to those two things I couldn't get pain meds as quickly as I wanted them but after everything started working I felt great, Probably from the help of the anesthetic and the morphine though I didn't use it but four or five times. I have hard time getting comfortable in the bed so I sleep in the recliner or another comfy chair most of the night and then move to the bed when I am so exhausted I can hardly walk there. I was amazed at how little pain I have had though I have been uncomfortable.

I haven't been able to focus on anything and have done very little except sit in chair and doze. I walk around the house every hour or so to try and prevent blood clots. I thought I would have a lot of adrenaline and be excited and up and moving but I am mostly lethargic. I hope this isn't going to last. At times I am miserable but I tell myself this phase will pass.

My daughter has been here with me and she encourages me to drink the protein and other fluids as I haven't been inclined to do it on my own. Just not hungry at all but do have empty feeling at times. I know I have to get the protein in for proper healing and I don't want to get dehydrated.

Glad to hear you made it through your surgery. I hope you get to feeling better soon. I know surgery and anesthesia take a long time to bounce back from for some people.
I am preop so don't know exactly how you feel. I hope you can sip and walk as that is what everyone keeps saying for immediate post ops.
Maybe when it's not too hot outside you could walk around outside see if that helps.
I think the main thing is get your liquids in so you won't be too dehydrated.
Good luck and feel better. Jackie

Hang in there.  I had the same experience.  The difference is that I was hurting pretty bad from the gas until my bowels started moving.  I felt very lethargic for the first week or so after surgery.  And even for the first month or two its tough not having as much energy, but that is due to your body adjusting the lack of calories.  You will get energy once you start losing weight and your body adjusts.  Try to drink as much as you can.  I could not stomach the clear protein drinks.  I must confess I survived the clear liquids stage on apple juice and G2 Gatorade.  But it is so important to drink.  I had some complications and had to go back to the hospital, and I was so dehydrated they had a really hard time getting an IV on me.  Push through it, its all worth it in the end!  I'm 3 1/2 months post op and I've lost 92 lbs...I feel WONDERFUL!  You will too!

I am encouraged by your post. It is amazing you have lost 93 pounds in 3 1/2 months!

I too don't care for the clear protein or the chocolate or the vanilla, etc. I am able to drink 2 oz of protein each hour and then I make sure I get 6 more ounces of liquid each hour. This is keeping me hydrated as I still am urinating so I know I have enough fluid. My bowels haven't moved any since Monday the 6th. I am not uncomfortable so I am hoping this is okay.
