"dodged a bullet"

Today I had a close encounter with sugar and it was a little scarey!!!  I have not dumped (yet) and I try to be very careful.  Today as I was browsing around the BIG "Mall of America" here in Minneapolis enjoying "retail therapy" during my vacation ,  I went into a specialty tea shop.  I LOVE hot tea!!  They had thermal dispensers with free samples of their exotic teas.  I drank 2 little two ounce plastic cups of the hot teas.  As I took the last gulp of my second cup I suddenly realized, 'This tea has been sweetened, WITH SUGAR!!'  I panicked and ran back to the dispensers to see if it was labeled and sure enough, there it was in the fine print on the dispenser, "lightly sweetened."  The second cup was a bit more than "lightly" sweetened though.  There I was in a big city, hundreds of miles from my NC home, in a strange mall, and I had no idea where the nearest bathrooms were.  I felt like a ticking time bomb, esp. since it had been several hours since I'd eaten, so I'm sure my little pouch was empty!  I waited and waited, but it didn't happen.  I didn't dump!!!!!  I sure did feel like I dodged a bullet though!!

Glad you are having a wonderful vacation. Love the updates. I have never been to the mall of America. Not a mall girl but sure would love to walk through it once.

Glad you caught on to the sugar sweetener before you drank anymore. I am OK with a little sugar but too much and bathroom here i come! My rule is try to avoid trying anything new while I am out as I just do not know how I may react. 1 or 2 bites is usually ok, but 3 or more and i am headed for trouble.

You are listening to your pouch and watching what you are doing so good for you! Enjoy your trip and watch out for those bullets!

If I am gonna eat   like a fat girl, then I gotta workout   like a skinny girl!

Hi Meredith,

I'm glad that the tea didn't cause you any difficulties. I have to say that they way I found out that I wasn't particularly sensitive to sugar started when I realized that milk didn't bother me. It has about 10 grams of sugar in a serving. While you may not be able to tolerate significant amounts of sugar, if you can tolerate a serving of milk or yogurt, you'll probably be okay with a small serving of something like lightly sweetened tea.

I hope that you conintue to enjoy your visit.

Wishing you continued success,

Barbara

 Hi Meredith,

So glad that you didn't experience difficulties with the tea.  You are so smart to stay away from sugar. I started with a nibble here and a nibble there and unfortunately, it doesn't give me any trouble.  My 3 daughters are nice and normal size and they love to bake goodies and eat ice cream.  It is always so tempting.  Vacation was really hard.  I am so proud of you for being stronger than me.  Keep up the good work!!     Mary Ada
