bread at restaurants

I do so know what you mean. I am preop but times when I have been on low carb diets I have had to ask others at the table to move the bread AWAY from me. Get it as far away as possible!
I have always been a bread and butter person. When I was in first grade, for a dime we could either buy ice cream or hot rolls with real butter with our lunch at school. I went for the rolls and butter every time!
Of course now I eat the rolls and the ice cream which is what helped me get to need WLS!
Keep up the good work with following your post op eating instructions and keep enjoying your vacation, without bread. Jackie

Hi Meredith,
I know what you mean and I LOVE breads. I think the thing that has really worked for me is to know that I don't have to leave it out, but it has to come in it's own time... When I was where you are in my journey, I rarely ever got there and I doubt you will either. My rules where that I had to consume 2 to 4 ounces of lean protein, followed by some complex carbs... that will probably fill you. Buy if you are able to consume that and have room for a couple of bites of simple carbs, you may want to enjoy them. For me, knowing that nothing is out of bounds, but just needs to be consumed after I have taken care of 'business' really helps me. Last night, I had a lovely salad with grilled chicken and when I was done, I had a 'small' piece of bread and even had a tiny bit of butter. I enjoyed it and it doesn't undo me. If I had started with the bread and butter, I'd have had more than I should have, I'm sure and wouldn't have had room for the stuff that actually fuels my body.... that said, good bread fuels my heart and soul and those need to be fed too... just in moderation.
Hugs,
Barbara
