I know everyone varies and all but I was just wondering

How long was it after surgery were each of you able to go back to work??

Like I said, I know it varies on job type and your own personal issues but I am just trying to get an overall idea or timeframe.

I await your responses.

Take Care!

I am a teacher in a situation where I do small groups so I sit a lot.  I was able to go back after 2 weeks.  We were in the middle of an afterschool enrichment program that lasted until 5.  I didn't make it past 2pm that first day but it got better.

I went back to work one week after my surgery.  I teach school, so it wasn't physical labor.  I actually went back to work at both jobs on that day.  I was pretty run down, but as long as I kept up my protein levels, I was good.

I think a lot of it depends on how active you are before surgery.  I was always on the go before, and I think that helped me heal faster.  Get up and move as much as possible once you get home.

Good luck!

Michelle

Hi Jordan,

I don't work outside of the house, so it wasn't a real issue for me. I did have a complication that required a couple of extra hours in the OR, but my surgery was still lap... I imagine that I would have been out the normal 3 weeks that i was out when I had my lap gall bladder removal.

My Dear Husband, Ben had his RNY in December and he was off for 3 weeks before he returned to work to find a pink slip. Because he was laid off the day he returned to work, he doesn't really know what it would have been like to go back to work... If you ask me, it would have been easier. The stress of not working has been hard on him and on me.

I had my lap band surgery on Wednesday.  I took off the remainder of the week.  I returned to work on Monday.  My job doesn't require lifting and as long as I was off the drugs the doctor said I could go to work.  I felt a little tired the first day, working 8+ hours, but the next day was a lot easier.

Hey Jordan,

I had decided to take off 3 weeks after surgery. I am an IT Manager so some days I sit a lot and some days I run around. I am a true workaholic and have not taken care of Valerie for a long time. I viewed the surgery as a turning point for taking better care of me so I took the time off.

When I went back to work the 4th week I was quite tired as I was having trouble getting in my protein. That first week I wound up working 1/2 days.

How was the yard sale?

Girl, The Yardsale was a hit. It was a really dreary day here, sprinkling on and off but I made 200.00 which is great for the small town I live in. We got rid of everything we wanted to except some clothes which we donated to charity.

Thanks for your input on the job.

I am trying to decide if I should go ahead and try to get another job or just continue my unemployment checks until I get settled and straight after my surgery.

Hope you are doing wonderful.

I am a music teacher, so I have a pretty active job: dancing, singing, playing instruments, carrying and setting up instruments, rehearsals and performances in various locations, etc.  With that in mind I took one week off BEFORE my 2-week Christmas break, so I had a total of 3 weeks off work.  When I returned to work I was completely fine.  I could have gone back to work after 2 weeks, but it sure was nice to have those three weeks!
