GoWear Fit Pictoral post

At the Greenville meetup, I showed off my GoWear Fit.  Some asked that I post the info over here at the NC board.  This is a post I did a few days ago when I first got it, xp'd from the RNY board.

So yesterday was my first full day with this thing.. including the sleep from the night before.  It's not terribly uncomfy as stated before, but it's starting to irritate now.  It could be a fluke, my sensitive skin, or whatever.. but it's not horrible as of now, just know it's there.

So immediately I install it -- and yes, it's very very easy.  It doesn't like my FF3, but it will choke it down and not complain too badly about it.  I just get an orange text area that says "browser not supported"  -- whereas with IE whatever this is (latest version) it wouldn't load at all.  The software itself has both web and pc-based components.

Unit charges with a mini USB cable, which means in a pinch will charge off a cell phone charger with like plug (CrackBerries, other SmartPhones, etc).

So what did I learn?  Well, I knew I was taking in too few calories for my daily exertion.  I had some adhesions lysed several weeks ago and my normal iron pouch is on vacation.  I've been on extended bouts of clears, full liquids, softs, and back to clears, etc.  I'm also off supplements for a few weeks since they always caused a flare up (you gotta know it's bad when *I* don't take my iron..) and I'm HEAVILY dosed with carafate and protonix for a few weeks to try and help.  But this also means my food intake is severely limited -- I hadn't been journaling, but when I did yesterday, I saw the following stats:

Consumed calories: 614
Calories burned: 3136
Deficit: 2522 (with a target deficit of 1000)

I burn 1.3 calories at rest, which gave me over 600 cals burned while asleep -- not too shabby, I suppose.

And as promised.. pictures!  (Left very large so you can see the detail -- sorry they aren't pretty screen shots, but I only had 2.5 hrs quality sleep last night..)

Hi Andrea,

First of all, it's good to see you. Secondly, I've been 'out of the loop' for the most part lately and hadn't heard of the GoWear Fit until now. It looks like an interesting way to stay accountable and manage your overall fitness.

Thanks for sharing and I hope that you are doing better soon.

I had been reading the gowear posts on the RNY board that you and others have been sending. Seems like a great tool. I am not logging my food right now so I thought I would hold off on buying it for a bit.

I do like the information it provides and I think it will be the more structured way to get me to my goals. I just love structure! So who knows, I may have one before the end of the month, or I may wait a little longer.

Keep posting your results and I may just jump on the bandwagon sooner rather than later!

If I am gonna eat   like a fat girl, then I gotta workout   like a skinny girl!

I've lost 5lbs since wearing it.  How much of it is an inability to eat, how much of it is the choice to actually move rather than sit on my butt, how much is a combo of the above..?  In any case, I've lost 5lbs.

That sounds really cool.  So do you have to wear it all the time?  Does it constantly take readings?  How does it work?  Sorry for all the questions..

I wear it for everything other than showers and baths.  It's water resistant but no****erproof -- so if I get caught outside in the rain it's alright, but no aqua aerobics sorta deal.

It constantly reads me.  It updates the display every minute or two.. but it's reading 24/7 (well, as long as you have it on).

Ask any questions you want.

Wow.. that sounds really cool.  So does it calculate your metablism?

I know I have an extremely slow metabilism. I eat 1000 cal less than what is recommended by the trainiers at the gym and I exercise and I still haven't lost a pound.  My neurologist thinks it's due to the sleep apena.  So i can't win it seems...

It would be cool to see where I was really at..

It also shows sleep patterns, which is really interesting..

I always thought I had a slow metabolism -- but it turns out I had a higher metabolism than I thought and wasn't eating ENOUGH.  That's one thing that opened my eyes.  The day after I eat  a "higher-than-usual" calorie count, I actually drop on the scale.
