Hi,

I have not had personal experience with Dr. Torquati, but since I run a fairly large support group I know a number of his patients and have heard very good things about him. Those who have shared,  have said that he is thorough, compassionate, passionate, and very competent.

Dr. Torquati just joined Duke recently. He is from Italy and did much of his study there. He was at Vanderbilt in Tennessee prior to joining the program at Duke.

I had my surgery at Duke with Dr. Eric DeMaria. My husband had his at Duke with Dr. Dana Portenier. To be honest, I would be comfortable having any of the staff at Duke. I feel confident that they have put together a top-notch staff.

Wishing you every success in your journey,

I appreciate your input. I am not as confident as you but I'm hoping my future visits will ease my mind.

Dr. Torquati performed my RNY in January 2008 at Duke,  I really felt that I was in very competent hands and his bedside manner to me as well as my husband was superb.  The only thing that I would have to say to watch out for is his accent - it is still pretty thick, but I didn't have any problems with that either.

Good luck to you on your journey- You're in very good hands!

Glad to know you had a good experience. I too found his accent a bit strong but I could understand him. I have only met him once but will see him for pre-op on June 18th. I'm hoping I will feel more confident in the process by the end of the visit.

Hi!

Dr. Torquati performed my RNY surgery April 13th of this year.   He is very capable and answered all of our questions.   The surgery went well and it only took 1 hr and 20 mins. I  had no complications.  He has been very encouraging through the whole process.

Thank you for responding to my question.  I have only met him once and have pre-op visit June 18th. I am feeling a bit nervous about the whole process. My experience with DWL hasn't been as smooth as I would have thought it would be. I will see how things go on the 18th and if I don't feel any better about them I may look for another site weigt loss surgery center.

I am not sure what issues and/or problems you have encountered, but I would strongly suggest that you consider talking to the Dr and even to the head of the program, Dr. Sudan if you have concerns about the program. They have had an enormous turnover in office staff and have been revamping the program as a whole. I have spoken with Dr. Sudan and know that he would be interested in any concerns patients have. You might also see about talking with Mary Whitman. She is the bariatric coordinator and has a significant interest in smoothing the road for patients.

I wish you all the best as you make your journey with whichever program you feel most comfortable.
