RNY patients need to be especially careful with "Green Tea" and "Black Tea".    The whole purpose of RNY is to cause malabsorption issues that help us loose weight.  However that can cause problems with absorbing the vitamins and nutrients we need for everyday.

Caffine - like in sodas and regular coffee reduces absorption by 25%.  Green Tea by 35-40% and Black tea by almost 50%.

I'm not saying don't do it by all means. Just be careful.

Can you tell me where you got these stats?  Green tea and black tea have 20% or less of the caffeine that is in coffee.

Every nutritionist I've talked to. When I started my WLS Journey, green tea and black tea were on restricted list. When I asked why, that's what I was told.

I came to OH boards and someone told me I was full of shiat, so I posted on the nutrition section of the OH boards where the nutritionist answer questions.  They too agreed with the assessment and they were the ones who provided the specific percentages.

Something I do not understand, but apparently there are different levels of caffine.  It was explained to me like this. Coffee you have  mild roast, medium roast and dark roast.  Caffine acts much the same way.

If I can find that old post from here, I'll link it. It was almost 18 months ago
